Domenico Di Carlo has been sacked as coach of Parma, the Serie A strugglers said on Monday.

Parma suffered their 12th league defeat of the season on Sunday when they lost 2-1 at home to Sampdoria.

The 1995 and 1999 UEFA Cup winners are fourth-from-bottom and level on 25 points with Empoli, who occupy the first of three relegation places.

"Parma announce that Domenico Di Carlo has today been relieved of his role as first team coach," a statement said on the club's Web site (www.fcparma.it).

Di Carlo was appointed in June after Claudio Ranieri quit and joined Juventus having kept Parma up at the end of last season.

The January signing of Italy striker Cristiano Lucarelli from Shakhtar Donetsk has failed to revive Parma's fortunes and Di Carlo has paid the price.

Italian media have said former boss Nevio Scala and ex-AC Milan coach Alberto Zaccheroni are favourites for the job.
