		Tourists are not allowed to mix with the locals. The islands inhabited by the Maldivians -- who incidentally are a race of people believed to be a cross between South Indians and Sri Lankans, though staunchly Sunni Muslim -- may be visited by groups of tourists, from time to time, supervised by guides.
