Rookie Saqibul relishing Pollock clash

Bangladesh all-rounder Saqibul Hasan was unfazed about facing top-ranked South Africa in their Super Eights match on Saturday.

Saqibul recalls watching Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis on television as a 12-year-old fan during the 1999 World Cup in England.

Two years later he took up the sport although he first played with a tennis ball. He did not strike a cricket ball until he was 14.

But having got a taste of upsetting the formbook following Bangladesh's surprise victory over India in the group stages, Saqibul is relishing the challenge of taking on the South African bowling attack -- which include world number one ODI bowler Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini.

"I have already faced Australia and New Zealand so I don't think they will be a worry for me," the 20-year-old told reporters. "I am quite confident I can take these guys on.

"We have been watching them on videos. They are good bowlers with good line and length and are quite accurate with the ball. (But) I just want to play my own game, nothing else."

The rookie middle-order batsman and left arm spinner has already proved his potential when he scored 53 in the five-wicket win over India.

"Scoring runs against these big teams helps your confidence," he added. "From that (India) match I learned that I can do well against good teams.

"It has been a good tournament for me so far. I'm trying to improve my game and I am enjoying playing against these big countries. It is a good test of your technique, your temperament and your mental toughness."
