Former captain Ravi Shastri was on Friday offered the post of manager of the Indian team beginning with the short tour to Bangladesh in May, according to BCCI sources.

Shastri, who came to attend the meeting of former captains with the BCCI office bearers in Mumbai for suggesting ways and means to improve Indian cricket in the aftermath of the World Cup debacle, is to decide on the matter shortly.

The cricketer-turned-commentator has told the board that he will have to look at his contractual obligations with a television channel before taking a decision, they added.

He is to go to Singapore tonight and take a decision.

There were also suggestions for engaging a separate batting, bowling and fielding coach for the Indian team on the first day of the two-day BCCI conclave in Mumbai.

The suggestions of the former captains would come up for discussion at the board's Working Committee on Saturday.
