The national selectors meet in Mumbai on Friday afternoon to select the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.
Following the team's dismal performance in the World Cup and subsequent unceremonious exit of coach Greg Chappell, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is hoping for a turnaround in fortunes in Bangladesh.
The selectors will hold discussions with captain Rahul Dravid and newly-appointed cricket manager Ravi Shastri before finalising the Test and One-Day International squads for the tour, from May 7 to 29.
Vengsarkar has already indicated that around 20 players would be chosen for the Tests and one-dayers. While a few performing youngsters at the domestic level could get a chance, wholesale sacking of the seniors is unlikely.
The tour may not be all that important, but the focal point is whether the Board is keen on building a team for the future, or reverting to a short-term formula and sticking to the old guns with the hope of ensuring victory in Bangladesh.
