The ongoing All India Inter State Twenty20 Cricket Championship has been named the Mushtaq Ali Trophy in memory of the former Test opener by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, its Technical Committee chairman Sunil Gavaskar said in Mumbai on Friday.
The decision was taken in the Ranji captains and coaches conclave, presided over by BCCI president Sharad Pawar and chaired by Gavaskar.
Attendees were informed about the BCCI working committee decision to have 10 teams in the elite group from the 2008-09 season and 17 in the Plate group in the Ranji Trophy.
The working committee also decided to have neutral venues for semi-finals and finals of Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Irani Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.
The Technical Committee will decide on suggestions, which included revision of the Ranji points system, scheduling of Duleep Trophy after the conclusion of Ranji Trophy and scheduling of Twenty20 matches.
While appreciating the BCCI's efforts to strengthen domestic cricket, the captains and coaches requested it to take steps to improve the standard of umpiring and quality of wickets.
Representatives of all 27 Ranji Trophy teams were present at the meeting, which was also attended by BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty and joint secretary M P Pandove.
