The new light blue coloured one-day clothing for the Indian team unveiled with much fanfare at a five star hotel in Mumbai with seven World Cup team members sporting it cannot be worn by the cricketers during the mega event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Wednesday.

"At the World Cup the players would be wearing only ICC-approved clothing which would be more or less similar in colour and other aspects to the present one being worn by the Indian team members," clarified BCCI's Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty.

Shetty said the BCCI has received a communication from the ICC that only the apparel approved by the world governing body could be worn by all the teams at the World Cup.

The country's cricket fans would now have to wait till the commencement of the three-match one-day series in Bangladesh in May, which is the first assignment for the team after the World Cup, to see their favourite stars in the new garb, Shetty added.

The clarification means Indian players cannot wear the new apparel, which is claimed to be 15 per cent lighter and with good sweat-absorbing features to keep the body temperature cool.

Yesterday the new team colours were officially launched by seven West Indies-bound Indian players - including captain Rahul Dravid and former skippers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
