The Government has appointed a top Delhi Police official as the Security Liaison Officer to the Indian cricket team during the World Cup in the West Indies.

Madhup Kumar Tewari, DCP (Security) - Delhi Police, will join the Indian team in the West Indies on March 8 and will co-ordinate the security measures during his month-long stay there, a statement from BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said.

Tewari, presently part of the Prime Minister's security wing, will be replaced by an official from the Intelligence Bureau, the BCCI statement added.

The Indian cricketers, already in the West Indies, have been provided NSG commando protection following a request from the World Cup organisers and the host governments.

The World Cup runs from March 13 to April 28.
