Young Bangladesh Test cricketer Manjarul Islam Rana was killed in a road accident near the south western town of Khulna in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
Manjarul, 22, was riding a motorbike along with a cricketer friend, Sajjadul Islam Setu, when a Khulna-bound microbus rammed into the bike near a bridge, killing the player on the spot and injuring Sajjadul, according to a report by United News of Bangladesh.
Sajjadul, a first division cricketer, later died at a local hospital in Dumuria.
Both players were residents of Khulna Metropolitan City and played for Khulna district and divisional teams.
Manjarul played six Tests and 25 ODIs for Bangladesh between 2003 and 2006.
A left-arm spinner, he made his one-day international debut in November 2003 as a 19-year-old and claimed the wicket of England's Michael Vaughan with his third ball to become the first Bangladeshi to take a wicket in his first international over.
Manjarul made his Test debut at Harare in 2003-04 against Zimbabwe but did not impress. He was sidelined since the series against India in December 2004.
The young cricketer's best performances in the one-day format were a couple of four-wicket hauls that earned him man-of-the-match awards and helped his country level the series against Zimbabwe in January 2005.
