Pollard content to hand the strike back to his fellow West Indian Simmons with a soft single on the leg side off Shivan. Simmons also completes his century from 61 balls with a single on the leg side.

Pollard then finishes off the game as he smashes a full toss into the crowd over long-on for a huge six.

Mumbai cruise to 159 for three in 19 overs to win by seven wickets with an over to spare. They jump to fifth in the IPL standings following their fifth victory from 12 games, while Punjab stay top with nine wins from 12 games.

With the match firmly in their grasp, Mumbai decide to avoid the risks and play it safe again Shivam, taking four runs from the 17th over.

Rohit gifts his wicket away courtesy of a poor shot. He makes room and steers a short ball straight into the hands of Sandeep on the thirdman fence to fall for 18.

Simmons is content to deal in singles and not take any risks with his century round the corner.

Captain Rohit Sharma also joins the party as he pulls a slower bouncer through midwicket for a boundary. He then drives a low full toss to sweeper cover for a couple to get 15 runs from the over.

Dhawan goes for nine runs in his fourth and final over as Mumbai continue their march to reach 142 for two in 16 overs, needing 15 runs from four overs for victory.

Patel ends his spell with a tight over, giving away just two runs, to finish with good figures of one for 27 in four overs.

Dhawan follows that up with another tidy over, giving away seven as Mumbai reach 118 for two in 14 overs, with 39 needed from 36 balls for victory.

Rayudu is doing well to rotate the strike and give most of it to the rampaging Simmons, who continues to deal in boundaries.

Dhawan drops short and wide as Simmons blasts it through the point region for another four.

But against the run of play, Mumbai lose the wicket of Rayudu, who plays an uppish drive but is caught in the covers for 17.

Rishi Dhawan comes into the attack. He slips one down the leg side which Simmons flicks fine on the leg side for a four and then takes a single to race to his half-century, from 27 balls.

Hendricks gets a warning from umpire Kumara Dharmasena for running on to the pitch on his follow through. One more running and he will be barred from bowling in this game.

Simmons makes it worse as he slams the left-armer over the off-side for a four and chops it over point two balls later for the same result.

Hendricks then switches to round the wicket but the short ball is pulled to midwicket for another four as Hendricks is smashed for 14 runs in that over.

Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel comes into the attack. Simmons makes room and smashes the second ball through the covers for a four before he lofts the next ball back over the bowler's head for another boundary to take Mumbai pat the 50-run mark.

Mumbai in control at 53 for no loss in five overs.

Simmons has done most of the damage, smashing 43 from 24 balls with the help of nine fours, while Mike Hussey has been a silent spectator with three from six balls.

Pacer Sandeep Sharma to bowl the first over and once again Punjab would be looking towards him to make the early breakthrough.

Lendl Simmons gets Mumbai off the mark in smashing fashion with three boundaries in the first over. He drives the second ball through the covers for a boundary before hitting the last two balls for two more fours to get 13 runs from the first over.

Left-arm pacer Beuran Hendricks to bowl the second over. He bowls a big wide down the leg side which wicketkeeper Saha misses for five wides but only seven come from that over.

Simmons continues his good start as he hits the first ball of Sandeep's second over through point for a four as Mumbai reach 29 for no loss in three overs.

Mumbai's bowlers staged a great recovery after Punjab's fiery start as Sehwag and Vohra went after the bowlers in the early overs.

Young leggie Gopal broke the backbone of Punjab's batting with the wickets of Vohra and Maxwell in a single over to finish with two for 32.

Bumrah also excelled with the ball and was particularly impressive in the death overs, taking two for 31.

Mumbai will keep their slim hopes alive in the tournament if they chase down this total and manage to win this match.

Dhawan shuffles across the stumps to Santokie and laps it fine on the leg side beating the fielder inside the circle for a four. The last ball is short and Bailey pulls it over midwicket for a six to get 14 runs from the over to take the total to 147 for six in 19 overs.

Santokie has been expensive with the ball, taking one for 40 in four overs while picking up a wicket.

The young Bumrah to bowl the final over of the innings. Bailey continues Punjab's good show in the last couple of overs as he lofts a full toss straight down the ground for a six.

But the bowler gets revenge from the next ball as Bailey chips it across the line on the leg side but is caught at deep midwicket for a good knock of 39 from 30 balls, having hit two fours and two sixes.

Beuran Hendricks is foxed completely by the slow off-cutter as he plays all over it but misses and is bowled for a first-ball duck.

Shivam Sharma drives the last ball to the covers for a single as nine runs come from the last over.

Punjab finish on a competitive 156 for eight in their 20 overs. They were 90 for two in the first 10 overs, but they lost six for 66 runs in the next 10 overs to lose the initiative.

Wriddhiman Saha perishes cheaply as he is run out for three courtesy of a direct hit from Ambati Rayudu at mid-on.

Punjab have lost the plot in the last few overs to be reduced to 107 for five in 15 overs.

Gopal leaves Punjab in a spot of bother with two wickets in his third over. Vohra, who scored 36 from 34 balls, tries to slog sweep the leg-spinner but misses and is bowled.

Two balls later, Glenn Maxwell lobs a simple catch straight back to the bowler to be dismissed for two as Punjab are reduced to 93 for four in 11 overs.

Santokie comes back and he makes the crucial breakthrough with the wicket of Marsh, who is caught at long-on after a promising innings of 30 from 17 balls.

Vohra drives a full delivery back down the pitch as it hits the stumps at the other end. Mumbai have appealed for a run out which is referred to the third umpire who gives the benefit of doubt to the batsmen with not much evidence to prove that Gopal had got a touch to the ball before it hit the stumps.

Gopal drops short and Marsh is quick to pull it through the leg side for a four before he hits a huge six two balls later as Punjab progress to 85 for one in nine overs.

Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha comes into the attack. Vohra slams the first ball down the ground for a six over long-on before Marsh heaves the last ball over midwicket for the same result to get off the mark in grand style as Ojha concedes 14 runs in his first over.

Punjab are looking in control on 48 for one in six overs with Vohra on 23 from 19 balls and Marsh on six.

Vohra is hit on the pads as he tries to turn Kumar on the leg side but misses and the LBW appeal is turned down. He plays and misses the next ball as he tries to drive it through the off-side as Mumbai continue to build the pressure after Sehwag's dismissal.

Vohra retains strike with a single from the last ball as Punjab reach 34 for one in five overs.

Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack after just one over from Santokie. Vohra chips the second ball over mid-off and it goes over Rohit Sharma for a boundary but two balls later he is beaten as he attempts to upper cut the bouncer.

Vohra then goes after a wide delivery which he edges but it beats the fielder at thirdman for another four.

A single from the last ball helps Vohra retain strike as Punjab reach 33 for one in four overs.

Vohra is on 15 from 11 balls with the help of three fours, while Marsh is yet to get off the mark.

Punjab 24-1 (3 ovs) vs Mumbai

Against the run of play, Punjab lose the key wicket of Sehwag, who is run out after a quickfire innings of 17 from 11 balls. The right-hander defended the first ball of the over back down the pitch and set off for a quick single, but to his misfortune the ball hit the non-striker at the other and the bowler Kumar had to just complete an easy run out.

Shaun Marsh is the new batsman and he will look to make it count in his first opportunity in IPL 7.

Just a single from that over as Punjab reach 24 for one in three overs.
20:11   Sehwag, Vohra give Punjab a flying start vs Mumbai
Punjab 22-0 (2 ovs) vs Mumbai

Left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie to bowl the second over. The first ball is pitched up as Vohra leans forward on one knee and drives it through the covers for a stylish boundary.

Three balls later Sehwag lofts a full delivery back over the bowler's head for a six as Punjab race to 22 for no loss in two overs.

Praveen Kumar to open the bowling and facing him first up is his former India team mate Virender Sehwag with the young Manan Vohra at the other end.

Sehwag drives the first ball through point where Kieron Pollard lets one go through, and it speeds away to the boundary. He launches the next ball over the off-side for a six to get off to a smashing start as 11 runs come from the first over.

19:51   Mumbai elect to bowl vs Punjab, Marsh replaces Miller
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has won the toss and elected to bowl against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, on Wednesday.

Punjab, who have already qualified for the play-offs, have made one change to their team. Shaun Marsh finally gets his first game of IPL 7 as he comes in for David Miller, who is rested.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh, who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket misses out because of illness and is replaced by pacer Praveen Kumar.
