Kulkarni comes back for his second spell, replacing Shami, who bowled a good first spell of one for five in three overs.

Morgan cuts the first ball to thirdman for a single to get off the mark and Root takes one to fine leg.

Morgan looks to disrupt Kulkarni's rhythm as he gives him the charge but is beaten outside the off-stump before he defends the last two balls.

Kulkarni went for 15 runs in two overs but has made a good comeback, giving away two runs in his third.

Root gets off the mark with a delightful boundary down the ground, punching a full delivery from Kumar past mid-off to get off the mark.

But he is unable to get any more runs from the rest of the over as England reach 29 for three in 11 overs.

Kumar has maintained a good line and length and bowled to his field which has it made it difficult to score runs against him.

One of England's most experienced batsman Eoin Morgan comes out to bat and he has his task cut. He also needs to get back in form having scored just 67 runs in his last five innings.

Just two leg byes from that over to Morgan as England struggle to 25 for three in 10 overs with both Root and Morgan yet to get off the mark.

India in complete control after a superb performance by their pacers with the new ball, having bowled four maiden overs and claimed three early wickets.

Meanwhile, Kumar continues his superb showing with the ball. Root, who has struggled for runs in the ODIs, watchfully plays out another maiden over.

Kumar's dream figures so far read: 5-3-3-2.

He has been on the mark right from ball as England have struggled to come to grips with a pitch offering a bit of assistance to the seamers early on.
15:39   Ballance out for 7, England in trouble
- Eng 23-3 (8 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Ballance breaks the shackles as he plays a good straight drive down the ground past mid-off for a boundary.

But he is beaten off the fourth ball as he tries to smash it through the off-side. Shami then comes round the wicket as Ballance drives it to the covers but straight to the fielder.

Shami switches to round the wicket as Ballance gets a leading edge trying to play on the leg side and ends up offering a simple catch to Rahane in the covers.

Ballance walks back for 7 to leave England in further strife at 23 for three in eight overs.

Kumar still getting a lot of movement with the new ball as it slants across Ballance, who is content to let it go. He offers no shot to the first three balls before defending one to the covers.

Kumar then slides it on the pads which Ballance flicks to the fine leg region for a single.

Kumar then gets it to move away from right-hander Joe Root but there is too much of movement and is called a wide.

Another good over from Bhuvneshwar, whose figures read two for three in four overs inclusive of two maidens.

Kulkarni, who went for 15 runs in his first two overs, makes way for Mohammed Shami. He looks in good rhythm right from the outset bowling in the good channel on and around the off-stump to left-hander Ballance, who looks to defend.

Shami struggled with his rhythm in the Tests but seems to be in good flow right from the start today. His pace is also up in the high 130s, as Ballance can only manage a tight single from the last ball of that over.
15:23   Bhuvneshwar's double strike puts India on top
- Eng 16-2 (5 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Bhuvneshwar strikes the first blow for India as he beats through the defences of Hales with an incoming delivery to bowl him for six. That was a full delivery and came in sharply as Hales looked to play a casual shot with any footwork.

Gary Ballance gets off the mark with a single before England lose another wicket. Cook tries to play the cut shot but there is not much width and he is caught by Raina at gully, who does well to hold on to a low catch.

Cook walks back for nine as England are reduced to 16 for two in the fifth over.

Kulkarni continues to build the pressure on Cook, who is still unable to find the gaps through the off-side. The left-hander is feeling the strain and is hitting the ball too hard but can't beat the fielders. He gets a lucky break as he throws his bat at a wide ball but gets a thick outside edge over the slips for his first boundary.

Two balls later, he finally gets it off the middle as he crashes a wide delivery through the covers for his second four as England reach 15 for no loss in four overs.

Cook looks to steer Kumar to thirdman but Suresh Raina comes up with a good diving save at gully and saves the single. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni runs all the way to him to pat his back and so do some of his other team mates.

The next ball is powerfully hit through the covers and this time Ajinkya Rahane comes up with a stunning save with a full length dive. And again Dhoni runs up to congratulate him on his effort. The Indians are looking all charged up out in the middle.

Cook is again struggling to get off the blocks as he plays his second successive maiden over against Kumar. The England captain is on one from 14 balls.

Kumar has started off with two maiden overs in a row as England struggle to six for no loss in three overs.

Debutant Dhawal Kulkarni to bowl the second over. His first ball in international cricket is driven for a boundary through the covers by Alex Hales, who gets off the mark in some style.

He inside edges the third ball as he again attempts the big drive through the covers as the ball goes past the stumps for a single on the leg side.

Cook gets off the mark with a single on the leg side before Hales again plays an unsure shot, looking to leave it but ends up steering it to the slips on the bounce.

- Eng 0-0 (1 ov) vs India | Scorecard

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to open the bowling for India and facing him is Alastair Cook, who is under pressure to get some runs and also lead England to victory in a do-or-die match for them.

Kumar gets good movement as Cook offers no stroke to the first two deliveries, which move away from the left-hander. He initially decides to poke his bat the third one and is beaten before he gets an inside edge to the next.

Cook is unable to get a run from the last two deliveries either as Kumar starts off in perfect fashion with a maiden.
