India kept chipping away at the wickets to reduce South Africa to 230 for seven in 53 overs at the tea interval on Day 1.

Keshav Maharaj was unbeaten on 23, while Kagiso Rabada was not out on one. India picked up four wickets in the session despite South Africa playing positively to score 123 in 27 overs.

Bhuvneshwar picked up another wicket in the second session, that of Quinton de Kock (43), for impressive figures of four for 68.

Debutant Jasprit Bumrah made a good comeback in the post-lunch session, with the key wicket of AB de Villiers, who was bowled off an inside edge for 65.

He helped South Africa rally after three early wickets as he put on 114 runs for the fourth wicket with Faf du Plessis, who scored 62.

Pandya accounted for du Plessis, who was caught behind, while Mohammed Shami dismissed Vernon Philander for 23.

India would be hoping to wrap up the innings quickly after the tea break and keep the hosts under the 300-run mark.
