IPL: Mumbai beat Chennai by 46 runs

23:37   Krunal shines with the ball for Mumbai




Chennai 155 (17.4 ovs) vs Mumbai 155-4 (20 ovs) Scorecard

Mumbai beat Chennai by 46 runs on another slow Chepauk track as they are all out for 155 for 4 in 17.4 overs.

Other than opener Vijay, a middle order collapse resulted in the loss.

Krunal was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai with figures of 2 for 7 off 3 overs.
 


Santner on strike as Tahir comes into the attack and Santner pulls the ball over long-on for a six!

Santner gets ambitious and tries to loft the full toss, gets nothing on it and is caught at long-on by Pollard for 22 and that is the end of Chennai's innings. 


Malinga continues and after a dot, Harbhajan is deceived by the pace and is caught at long-on. He goes for 1.


Bhajji is the new man in and gets off the mark with a single after Santner gets a single.

Dot to end the over as 4 runs and a wicket come off it.


Chahar is the new man in as Bumrah comes back into the attack.

After a single, a dot and a wide, Bumrah bowls a short one, Chahar goes after it, mistimes and is caught brilliantly by Krunal who dives in front to complete a good catch.

Chahar out for a duck.



Malinga back in the attack and after a couple of singles, Santner goes big and pulls the short ball over mid wicket for a six!

The batsmen then rotate the strike before Malinga bowls a slower one, it stops on Bravo who gets a leading edge and Malinga takes the catch to send him back for 20 off 17 as 11 runs and a wicket come in the over.

22 come off the last 3 overs as Bravo takes on the bowlers.


Leggie Chahar back in the attack and once again Bravo attacks and gets a four. The batsmen rotate the strike as 8 come off it.


Hardik back in the attack and 10 come off it as Bravo gets into the action.

He hits a four in the over and the batsmen take singles to up the rate a bit.




Anukal back in the attack gives 4 in the over.

Santner is the new man in and plays out two dots as 2 balls and wicket come in the over.


Bumrah is back in the attack and a leg bye to start the over as the ball goes off Vijay's pad.

After a dot, Bravo gets a single.

Vijay then is 'caught' by Surya, soft signal is out. Vijay cuts the ball and Surya dives forward to have his fingers under the ball. Third umpire calls it out and Vijay has to walk back after making 38 off 35. 






Bravo is the new man in as Chahar continues.

Bravo off the mark with a single as 5 come off the over.

Mumbai have lost half the side inside 10 overs. 

Vijay still at the crease, keeping Chennai's hopes alive.

 

Left-arm spinner Anukul Roy is in the attack now. 

After a couple of wides, Roy puts down a return catch as Shorey takes a single.

After 3 singles, Roy bowls another wide. 

Shorey then gets ambitious and comes down the track, doesn't middle it and is caught at long-on. He goes for 5.




Chahar continues and there seems to be a clear lack of communication between Vijay and Shouey as they get into a couple of mix-ups.

They however keep strike rotating and get 6 in the over.

Krunal has now struck twice foxing batsmen with his lack of spin. 

Chennai have failed to stitch up a semblance of a partnership. 



Shorey is the new man in and gets off the mark with a single to mid-wicket.

Vijay gets a single to long-off as just two and a wicket come in the over. 


Krunal back in the attack and Jadhav starts with a couple to mid-wicket.

Krunal then strikes again, this time again the ball comes straight, no turn and Jadhav tries to cut but only manages to chop it on to his off stump. 



Right-arm leggie Chahar comes into the attack and he starts well to give just 3 in the over.

Chennai make just 40 in the Powerplay overs. 


Bumrah comes in to the attack and Jadhav gets a single after two dots.

Vijay then plays out two dots before he gets lucky.

He pulls the ball to backward square leg and is dropped by Krunal and the attempt sees the ball run to the boundary. Five come off the over.



Jadhav is the new man in and he gets off the mark with a single. 

Vijay is then beaten before he survives the over where just one run and a wicket come off the over.

Krunal is back in the attack and after 2 dots, Rayudu is done in by the arm ball that comes straight and takes out the leg stump as Rayudu has to walk back for a duck.

Vijay putting on a fightback here after losing Raina.


Vijay has strike as Rayudu comes in to bat.

Vijay gets back-to-back boundaries, he first flicks the ball to backward square leg for a four and then just goes with the shot and hits it straight over the bowler for a six.

After a dot, Vijay then gets a couple off a misfield in the covers as 12 come off the over.


Hardik comes into the attack and starts with a short of length ball, Raina miscues the shot and is caught by Surya at backward point for 2.



Malinga continues and after Raina gets a single off the first ball of the over, Vijay cuts the ball over point for a boundary. 

After a couple of 2s, Vijay is dropped by debutant Anukul Roy, deceived by a slower one is Vijay and he gets a life.

A couple to end the over as 11 come off it.

Krunal comes in to bowl the second and  the batsmen rotate the strike and Vijay survives a stumping as just two come in the over.



Raina is the new man in and is stuck on a dot as 9 runs and a wicket come in the over.

Vijay and Watson open the batting for Chennai as Malinga opens the bowling. 

Vijay gets off the mark with a single off the first ball.

Watson then hits back-to-back boundaries to get going going and how!

After a dot, Watson just flicks the ball straight into the hands of short fine to be out for 8.

After that slight stutter in the middle, Pollard and Hardik put on some late histrionics to take Mumbai to 155 for 4 in their 20 overs. 

Rohit took some time before getting into the groove after losing De Kock early. But after the dismissal of Lewis and Rohit, Mumbai choked, losing 4 wickets within a short space of time.

Santner starred with the ball, with figures of 2 for 13.


Bravo comes in to bowl the final over, he is bowled it straight and Pollard just smashes it over the umpire's head for a four. 

A single to long off later, Bravo then bowls a dot. Good ball to chase Hardik and keep it inside the tramlines.

Hardik then hammers it straight back to long-on for a four. 

Bravo then bowls it in the slot for Hardik to just pick it up and hoick it over long on for a six to bring up the 150.

Hardik ends the over with a couple as 17 come off the last over. Mumbai get to 155 for 4.

Pollard and Hardik pick the singles and twos before Pollard gets an inside edge and the ball goes to fine leg for a four.

The batsmen do well to rotate strike as 10 come off the over.

Mumbai choke in the middle as they lose wickets at regular intervals.


Bravo continues and he bowls a decent line to give only six in the over. 


Pollard is the new man in and sees off a threatening Santner over safely as just one run and a wicket comes in the over.

Santner continues and Hardik gets a single off the first ball before he tosses one up and Rohit goes after it. He doesn't get the distance and is caught by Murali Vijay at long-on. He is out for 67.

Tahir continues and Rohit takes him on! 

The Mumbai captain gets back-to-back boundaries off the first two deliveries in the over. He then gets a single. 

Pandya looks ill at ease against the spinner before getting a single.

Rohit then dispatches the ball over deep square leg for a six as 16 come off the over.


Santner continues after the time out and Hardik is troubled by the spinner until he gets a single.

Just another single comes in the over as two come off it.

Mumbai have lost two quick wickets to be dragged on the back foot slightly.


Rohit is on strike as Hardik comes in to bat.

Rohit takes a single before Hardik gets off the mark with a run to long-off.

Rohit gets a life on 51 as the ball falls just short off Raina at covers.

Just two come off the over. 


Tahir back in the attack and he strikes off the very first ball.

This time he gets the big wicket of Krunal, who goes on one knee and tries to slog sweep! He does get the middle of the bat and is holed out in the deep by Santner. Krunal goes for 1.




The batsmen had crossed and Rohit is on strike as Krunal walks in to bat. 

After two dots, Rohit gets a single to covers to bring up his fifty.

After a dot, Krunal off the mark with a single. Just two runs and a wicket come off the over.


Santner continues and Lewis hoicks it over but only manages to get the elevation not the distance as he is caught by Bravo at deep mid-wicket for 32 off 30.

Bravo continues and he starts with a slow full toss and Lewis plays it to the on side for a single.

The batsmen rotate the strike before Rohit plays a cute upper cut over the keeper for a four. 

A dot to end the over as 7 come off it.


Left-armer Santner comes into the attack and what a start. He tosses it up, invites Rohit into the drive and it turns just past the off stump on pitching! Wow! 

Rohit then gets a couple before timing the ball beautifully through point for a four.

After the time-out, Bravo comes into the attack and starts with two dots before he drags one wide as Lewis goes chasing. Wide called.

Short ball next and Lewis cuts it to deep point for a single. 

The batsmen then rotate the strike as 5 come off the over.




Tahir continues and the batsmen rotate the strike before Lewis hammers a six to bring up  the 50 run partnership. 

He then hits a four and takes a single as 14 come off the over. 



Harbhajan continues and after a single by Lewis, Rohit hammers the bowlers for two sixes straight down the ground. 

A single to end the over as 14 come off it.

Bhajji finishes with impressive figures of 0-23 in his mandatory 4 overs.

Tahir comes into the attack and the batsmen take a single each as six come in the cover.

Bhajji continues and gives just four in the over.  

45 runs have come in the Powerplay.




Chahar continues and Lewis gets off the mark with a boundary.

Three boundaries come in the over as 16 runs come off the over.

Bhajji continues and after a dot, Rohit takes a single and only one comes off the over.



Lewis is the new man in and first up he plays and misses. 

He then hits it and the ball falls just short off Tahir at short fine.

11 runs and a wicket come in the over.



Chahar continues and De Kock just pulls it to deep backward square leg for a six! 

De Kock then just pushes the ball and times it to perfection as the fuller ball beats Tahir at cover to go to the boundary. 

A dot and a wide later, a slower deliver gets the better of De Kock as tries to work it on the leg side, only for it to balloon up as he gets a leading edge and is caught by Rayudu.

De Kock goes for 15 off 9.

Bhajji opens the bowling at the other end and gets some extra bounce and Rohit gets a single.

A dot later, De Kock and Rohit get a single each. 

Just four runs come off the over.


De Kock and Rohit start the innings for Mumbai while Chahar opens the bowling for Chennai and Rohit starts the innings with a boundary.

He then takes a single off the next ball. 

De Kock then just pushes the ball through covers for three.

Rohit then plays and misses before taking a single to end the over as 9 come off it.

19:55   Raina to lead


Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League match in Chennai on Friday.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will miss the match as he is down with fever and in his place Suresh Raina will lead CSK.

Besides Dhoni, Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja are also out of the team and their places have been taken up by Mitchell Santner, Murali Vijay and Dhruv Shrorey.

Mumbai Indian have made two changes. Ankul Roy will make his IPL debut while he will be joined in the team by Evin Lewis. Ben Cutting and Mayank Markande are the two players who have been left out.
