He then turns the next ball on the leg side for one before Chase is hit high on the pads by a sharp incoming delivery from Shami and he defends the last two balls.

Meanwhile, Jadeja rushes through his fourth over as he sends down a maiden over to Bravo.

Shami overpitches as Chase gets a good stride forward and drills the half-volley through the covers for a boundary to get off the mark.

In the next over, Bravo gets a thick outside edge which flies past the slip fielder for a four as he tries to cut a short ball from Jadeja.

Bravo then takes the attack to Jadeja as he lofts the next delivery over the long-on fence for a six.

The left-hander clips the fifth ball for a single to fine leg as West Indies reach 75 for three in 25 overs.

Ishant bowls a good over to Darren Bravo, who watchfully plays out a maiden over as West Indies struggle to 50 for two in 20 overs.

Brooks fails in his first Test innings as he tries to cut Jadeja but gets the edge which goes off Rishabh Pant's thighs and is caught by Ajinkya Rahane in the slips.

Brooks walks back for 11 as West Indies slip to 50 for three, in the 21st over.

West Indies innings is not going anywhere as far as the runs are concerned and India are now chipping away at the wickets to take control.

Jadeja nearly strikes next delivery as he beats Roston Chase with the arm delivery which goes through and bounces over the stumps and even wicketkeeper Pant is slow to get to the ball to give away four byes.

Spin introduced as Ravindra Jadeja comes in to bowl the 17th over. Brathwaite turns the first ball on the leg side for a single and Brooks clips the third ball behind square for a couple.

Jadeja produces a beauty, getting it to turn sharply past the edge as Brooks comes forward to defend.

Ishant makes the breakthrough in the next over. Brathwaite drives it straight back but can't keep it on the ground as Ishant does well to take a sharp catch on his follow through.

Brathwaite is dismissed for 14 from 51 balls as West Indies are reduced to 48 for two, in the 18th over.

Bumrah continues to ramp up the pressure as he bowls some sharp deliveries to Brooks. He nearly sends down the fourth maiden in a row but oversteps to concede a no-ball for the first run for West Indies in four overs.

The last ball is a cracker as it bounces steeply off length as Brooks is struck on the gloves, but the ball falls safely on the leg side.

Top stuff from Shami as he bowls on a good line and length just outside the off-stump and Brathwaite can only defend the over as the India pacer sends down his third maiden in a row.

Bumrah continues after the drinks break. Brooks clips the third ball past the fielder at mid-on and picks three runs to get off the mark.

While India's bowlers have not picked a cluster of wickets with the new ball, they have managed to keep things in check as West Indies have struggled after a quickfire start following the dismissal of Campbell.

Ishant comes back into the attack as he replaces Shami. He gets one to leave the right-hander as Brooks is committed to the poke and is beaten. The last ball is full and on the pads as Brooks clips it through midwicket for a four.

Shami follows it up with another testing over to Brathwaite, who watchfully plays out a maiden over.

West Indies are 37 for one in 10 overs, as India managed to pull them back after a flying start while also making the breakthrough.

Brooks defends solidly against Bumrah as he reaches out to a full delivery to block it. Shami tries a couple of bouncers but Brooks is content to leave them alone.

This is good testing bowling by the two Indian pacers, bowling in a good channel and not letting the Windies batsmen get away.

Three maiden overs in a row as West Indies reach 37 for one in 12 overs.

Mohammed Shami comes into the attack as he replaces Bumrah, who bowled three overs with the new ball.

He starts with a wide half-volley which Brathwaite drills through the covers for a four but is beaten next ball by some away movement from Shami.

He picks a single off the fourth delivery on the leg side before Campbell tries to clip it on the leg side but is beaten.

Shami then makes the breakthrough as Campbell ends up dragging a low full toss back on to his stumps to be bowled for 23.

Ishant again drifts on the pads as Brathwaite clips it to fine leg for one and Campbell pulls a short ball for another single.

Bumrah bowls it full as Campbell is forced to defend before he misses the flick to an overpitched delivery on the pads.

Bumrh goes wide and across as Campbell leaves it alone and then misses out on a short ball down the leg side.

The first ball from Ishant jags in sharply as Brathwaite is hit on the pads and it goes fine on the leg side to get the Windies a leg bye.

The third ball is again down the leg side as Campbell glances it fine for a four to get off the mark in style. The next ball again strays down the pads as Campbell collects another couple of runs.

Ishant then tries to adjust his line as he goes wide but Campbell manages to slash it through the off-side for another boundary as 11 come from the first over.

Jasprit Bumrah from the other end. Brathwaite offers no shot to the first ball before he picks a single off the next ball on the leg side.

Campbell is beaten trying to play it across on the leg side before he defends the rest of the over.

In the next over, Ishant beats Brathwaite outside the off-stump with a beauty, full and moving as the opener tries to drive but misses.

He then clips a full delivery off his pads to fine leg for one before Campbell gets the next ball off the outside half of the bat past gully for a four.

Campbell then takes on Ishant as he lofts a full delivery from the pacer over the covers for another boundary as West Indies race to 21 for no loss in three overs.

Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja hit half-centuries to steer India to 297 in their first innings, on Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies in Antigua, on Friday.

Batting at No 8, Jadeja chipped in with an useful innings of 58, helping India put on 93 runs for the loss of four wickets on the second day.

Jadeja got good support from Ishant Sharma (19) as the duo put on 60 runs for the eighth wicket to frustrate the Windies bowlers.

Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane hit a solid 81 to rally India after a few early wickets on Day 1, after they were put into bat.

Rahane, who hit 10 fours in his 163-ball knock, put on 68 runs for the fourth wicket with KL Rahul (44) to steady the visitors after a horror start.

Kemar Roach is the most successful bowler for West Indies, taking 4/66, while Gabriel picked 3/71 and Chase bagged 2/58.

Bumrah does well to play out a maiden over from off-spinner Chase, looking to play it late.

Pacer Roach comes back into the attack. Jadeja offers no shot to the first ball before he crashes the next ball through the covers for a four.

Jadeja drives the third ball to sweeper cover but turns down the single but takes the run off the fifth ball and Bumrah keeps out the last ball.

Intelligent batting by Jadeja as he shuffles across and paddles Chase fine on the leg side for two runs. He then curs a short ball from the off-spinner behind point for a four to bring up his fifty, from 104 balls.

Jadeja then heaves the next ball over the midwicket fence for a six as India close in on the 300-run mark.

It remains to be seen how Jadeja approaches his innings now.

Ishant has played his part with a dogged knock of 17 from 48 balls, while Jadeja has made a solid 32 from 84 balls.

Gabriel is back into the attack. Ishant is beaten first ball by one which holds its line before he nearly lobs a short ball to the close in fielder trying to block it.

The next ball is again short as Ishant leaves it alone before he survives a caught behind appeal off the last ball as Gabriel bowls another good delivery.

Jadeja then taps the third ball to point for another run and Ishant is able to play out the last three balls.

Holder gives Jadeja some width as the left-hander slashes it past point for a four and then defends the next.

West Indies have had enough as they take the second new ball after 81.2 overs.

Holder bowls a short ball first up as Jadeja is late on the pull, swatting it to midwicket for one.

Ishant gets an outside edge off the next ball but it falls just short of the fielder at first slip and then defends the last two balls.

Pacer Roach is back into the attack after the drinks break. Jadeja flicks the first ball on the leg side for one and Ishant picks one off the third ball on the off-side.

Roach tries the short ball but Jadeja quickly rocks back and pulls it through midwicket for a four and then defends the last ball.

A single to Ishant off Holder on the leg side helps India bring up their 250, in the 84th over.

In the next over, Ishant pokes at a wide delivery and is beaten before he clips the next through square leg for a couple.

Ishant is then hit on the pads as he is beaten by the incoming delivery, however, the impact is well outside the off-stump and the LBW appeal is turned down.

He then gets an inside edge off the next delivery for a single.

Cummins looking to keep in a good channel outside the off-stump as Jadeja is content to play out a maiden over.

Holder follows it up with another maiden over as India reach 235 for seven in 80 overs. The second new ball is available but West Indies decide against taking it immediately.

Ishant defending everything with a straight bat as much as possible. Roach goes for the yorker but ends up bowling a full toss which Ishant flicks through midwicket for two runs.

Gabriel tries a short ball which goes down the leg side as Jadeja has an easy leave before he drives the next through the covers for a couple and then picks a single on the leg side.

The last ball is again a full toss as Ishant late cuts it past the slips for a four.

Change in the bowling as Miguel Cummins comes into the attack in place of Roach.

Jadeja now trusting his partner Ishant enough to take a single off the very first ball. Ishant then manages to play out the remaining five deliveries and is beaten once outside the off-stump.

Another short ball from Gabriel which Jadeja leaves alone and does the same with the next ball as the pacer oversteps to give away a no-ball and then offers no shot to the last ball.

Roach bowls a sharp incoming delivery to Ishant aimed at his body which he nudges on the leg side for one to get off strike.

Jadeja then defends a full delivery but offers no shot to the next before he glances the fifth ball fine for one and Ishant is beaten last ball as he tries to defend.

Gabriel goes for the yorker which slips down the leg side as Jadeja misses the glance but it hits the pads and goes fine for two leg byes.

The next ball is overpitched outside the off-stump as Jadeja drives it past mid-off for three runs, to give Ishant the strike only for the last two balls.

Ishant showing great purpose with the bat, not wanting to give his wicket away easily. He shuffles across and clips Gabriel through square leg and picks up two runs.

The last ball is short and aimed at the body as Ishant manages to fend it down towards short fine leg.

Gabriel then produces a beauty, bounce and away movement as Jadeja is beaten all ends up before he defends the rest of the over.

Kemar Roach comes in from the other end. Pant drives the first ball through the covers for two runs and then plays the same shot three balls later for the same result.

Roach then makes the early breakthrough as Pant looks to push forward but gets the outside edge and is caught at second slip by Jason Holder for 24.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the first Test between West Indies and India in Antigua, on Friday.

Ajinkya Rahane made 81 as India advanced to 203 for the loss of six wickets at stumps on a rain-affected opening day in North Sound.

Rishabh Pant (20) and Ravindra Jadeja (3) were the two unbeaten batsmen at close of play on the opening day. They will be hoping the two batsmen can stitch together a partnership and take India towards a sizeable first innings score.

On Day 1, Rahane, without a Test century in two years, fell short of the mark again when he was bowled by paceman Shannon Gabriel, via an inside edge.

His innings helped India steady the ship after they had been reduced to 25 for three on a day when West Indies won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat.

Captain Virat Kohli was among the India top order to fall cheaply. He made only nine before being caught in the gully, again off Gabriel, who finished the day with figures of 2-49.

Gabriel complemented fellow opening bowler Kemar Roach, who picked up 3-34, including two early breakthroughs when he had both Mayank Agarwal (five) and Cheteshwar Pujara (two) caught behind.

Only 68.5 overs were bowled due to intermittent rain.

The two-Test series is part of the inaugural World Test Championship.

Rain brought an early end to proceedings on Day 1 of the first Test, with India struggling on 203 for six at stumps on the opening day, in Antigua.

Rahane then led the recovery in the company of Rahul, before the latter was caught down the leg side off Roston Chase.

Rahane also put on 82 runs for the fifth wicket with Hanuma Vihari (32), who also failed to carry on after getting off to a start as he was caught behind off Roach.

Gabriel dented India further with the vital scalp of Rahane, who was bowled off an inside edge.

There were quite a few rain interruptions during Day 1 as only 68.5 overs were bowled during the day.

The groundstaff took off the covers as the umpires came out for an inspection. But no sooner did they reach the middle that the groundstaff were forced to rush back the covers with more rain approaching the stadium.

This time the rain looks quite heavy as the umpires are forced to rush off the field.

That also turns out to be stumps on Day 1.

The rain is round the corner as the dark clouds start closing in on the Sir Vivian Richard stadium.

Meanwhile, Jadeja and Pant keep batting steadily to build a partnership.

Holder follows it up with a maiden over to Jadeja, who is happy to bat cautiously according to the situation of the game, scoring just three from 28 balls.

The rain start picking up but the umpires want Chase to complete his over to Pant as they ask the groundstaff to hold on and not rush with the covers, but to no avail as the rain comes down in force.

Holder bowls a beauty to Pant to beat the left-hander all ends up. The West Indies captain gets the ball to kick off length as Pant has a poke and is lucky that he didn't edge it.

Roach dents India further with the wicket of Jadeja, who is ruled out leg before wicket for one.

However, he decides to take the review. And rightly so, as he had got a big inside edge and the decision has to be overturned.

In the next over, Pant has a huge appeal for LBW turned down as West Indies decide against the review. The ball had pitched outside the leg stump and West Indies did well not take the DRS.

The next ball is short as Pant somehow manages to keep it down as he plays out a maiden over from Gabriel.

Roach keeps up the pressure with a maiden over to Jadeja, the third over with a run as the two left-handers look to get their eye in.

Holder is back into the attack. Pant ends the sequence of three successive maiden overs as he slaps a full wide delivery through the covers for a four. He nearly plays all over a full delivery but manages to get his bat down in time and block it on the leg side.

The last ball is overpitched as Pant drives it through the covers for two runs as Jadeja turns down the third run.

India's hopes of getting a good total rests largely on Rahane, who has looked quite solid since the lunch interval.

Gabriel switches to over the wicket as he tries the bouncer which is down the leg side and Pant can easily avoid it.

A huge wicket for West Indies as Gabriel dismisses the well-set Rahane, who is bowled off an inside edge for 81. The extra bounce accounted for Rahane, who tried to slap it through the off-side but ended up dragging it back on to his stumps.

Ravindra Jadeja walks in at No 8 and gets off the mark with a single to fine leg.

Roach again getting the ball to move away quite late as Vihari was forced to have a poke but got the edge and wicketkeeper Hope to take a good catch diving forward.

In the next over, Rahane nudges Gabriel fine on the leg side for only a single before Rishabh Pant plays a loose poke to a short wide delivery and is beaten.

The last ball is a full toss which Pant clips through midwicket for a four to get off the mark in confident fashion.

Pacer Gabriel is back into the attack. The first ball cuts in sharply as Vihari plays away from his body but is beaten and even wicketkeeper Hope is beaten by the movement and pacer as he fails to stop it and concedes a bye.

Rahane then flashes his bat at a short wide delivery but is beaten before he keeps strike with a single from the last ball.
