World Cup: Bangladesh stun Windies to win by 7 wickets

Bangladesh stun Windies by 7 wickets in their World Cup match in Taunton on the back on a century by Shakib and a 94 by Das.

With this win, Bangladesh continued their good run over the Caribbean team whom they beat three times in the tri-series hosted by Ireland last month.

Bangladesh are now up to 5th in the table.


Six needed off 54 balls! 


Gabriel continues, the yorker dug out by Das and gets a couple to backward square leg.

Short ball again and Das pulls it behind square for a four and achieve the target with 51 balls to spare!



Holder comes into the attack and bowls a pitched up delivery that Das latches on to and drives through covers for a four.

The batsmen then take a single each before Das cuts the short, wide delivery through backward point for another four in the over.

After a dot ball, Das plays the ball to third man for single as 11 come off it.

Shakib then gets the thick edge and the ball flies through the empty slip cordon for a four.

Shakib ends the over with a single as 24 come in the over -- the most runs in an over this World Cup.

After a dot, he gets a single to bring Shakib on strike, who gets to his century with a cracking shot through covers. That is a four and consecutive centuries for the senior statesman.



Cottrell back in the attack and the batsmen take a single off the first two balls and after a dot, a short ball and Das plays the perfect upper cut to take the ball over third man for a six! WOW!

The batsmen then run three singles as 10 come in the over.




Holder continues and the batsmen get a single each before Shakib again top edges the pull and it flies over the keeper for a four.

Shakib and Das involved in a near-run. Luckily Das made it in time before the keeper could whip off the bails.

Shakib, probably a little shaken from those two early dismissals plays out four dots - one a play and a miss.

Thomas then bowls a wide before Shakib just cuts the short, wide ball beautifully past the backward point fielder for a four.

Shakib then plays an upper cut and gets a single to third man.

The batsmen take easy singles before Mushfiqur gets a faint edge as he tries to tickle the ball down the leg side. The ball was heading down the leg side, he had no business touching the ball, but he got the edge, the keeper completes the catch and he walks back for 1.

The replays show he is short of his crease and Bangladesh lose their 2nd wicket thanks to some brilliant piece of cricket.

After losing Gayle early, Lewis and Hope provided stability to the innings before Hetmyer upped the ante and the scoring rate.

But Bangladesh clawed their way back into the contest and put the breaks on the Windies' scoring as Shakib, Mustafizur and Shaifuddin kept the runs down and picked wickets, especially at the death to not let the Windies conjure up a big total.


Shaifuddin continues and he starts with a wide. 

After a dot, he bowls another wide, this time for bowling a bouncer. 

And another wide as he sees Thomas coming down the track.

Thomas then just plays the ball to the off-side to bring Bravo on strike.

Bravo just picks up the short one and pulls it over deep mid-wicket for a six.

Bravo then digs out the yorker, doesn't take a single. 

Another dot later, Shaifuddin ends the innings superbly, the ball rattling Bravo's stumps as he finishes with 3 wickets.

Mustafizur then comes back with a yorker, Bravo asks his partner to run to the strikers' end.

Thomas then plays the ball to deep mid-wicket and a couple after a misfield.

Next ball. there is a review for hit-wicket and he has already finished his shot and hence the third umpire says not out.

Mortaza back in the attack and this over has been dominated by Holder who hammers the bowler over cow corner for a massive six.

Holder then checks his shot, but lucky for him Tamim doesn't time his dive well as the ball dips on him and the ball races to the boundary.

After a dot, Holder plays a cross batted shot, no edge there.

Andre Russell is the new man in with Hope on strike as the batsmen had crossed.

Hope is hit on the pads, big appeal but umpire says not out, replays show ball would have pitched outside leg stump.

Next ball is a peach to Dre Russ, the ball just beating the batsmen. 

Another good ball angling across the Russell and a good catch taken by keeper Rahim. Dre Rus gone for a duck. 



Mustafizur comes back in the attack and Heymyer gets a single to get to 50 in just 25 balls.

Mustafizur bowls on the legs and Hope just plays it off his pads for a single to short fine.

Hetmyer tries to go big, gets no control and his caught well by Tamim Iqbal. He goes for 50.


Hassan continues and the batsmen are just content to take 6 singles this over.

Just when the Windies were looking good to set another big partnership, Shakib gets the wicket of the dangerous Pooran, much needed for Bangladesh.

Hetmyer comes in to bat after that wicket and drinks.

Shakib continues and Hope comes down the track and gets a single to long-off.

Pooran then tries to go after Shakib, he goes down on one knee and whacks it straight over the bowler but he does not get the distance and is caught by Sarkar at long-on. Pooran out for 25 off 30.


Medium pacer Shaifuddin comes back into the attack.

Swing and a miss, Pooran drawn onto the front foot to drive. He is beaten.

After a dot, Pooran gets a single to backward point, a slight misfield allows the batsmen to steal a single.

An outswinger next two balls and Gayle is happy to just let them go to the keeper. Two runs come off the over.
Chris Gayle and Ewin Lewis open the batting for West Indies while Mortaza opens the bowling for Bangladesh in this must-win game for both teams.

Mortaza starts well, pitching the ball around that corridor and swinging.

Some width this time and Gayle does not connect well and fails to put it away. Again another outswinger and Gayle lets it go.

That final ball's a peach as Gayle is made to play at it as the ball just goes past his bat. A maiden to start proceedings.

Bangladesh captain Mushrafe Murtaza has won the toss and elected to bowl against West Indies in Taunton on Monday.

Bravo comes back in the Windies squad. 

Bangladesh will have the psychological advantage when they face West Indies though both teams are sailing in the same boat as far as their World Cup campaign is concerned. Bangladesh beat West Indies as many as three times in the tri-series that Ireland hosted ahead of the World Cup.

Both teams are on three points from four games in the World Cup, having lost two games with one game each being a washout.

Bangladesh, who last played on June 8 when they lost to England, will be itching to take the field after a forced break of one week with the game against Sri Lanka called off due to rain.

India extend their World Cup supremacy against Pakistan as they registered a convincing 89-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis method, in Manchester, on Sunday.

After putting on a huge 336 for five in their 50 overs, a clinical India were superior with the ball too despite losing Bhuvneshwar Kumar to injury.

Pakistan never got going in the rain-hit encounter and finished on a disappointing 212 for six after their run chase was reduced to 40 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled an exceptional spell, dismissing the well-set duo of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman (62) in successive overs to trigger the middle order collapse. He finished with outstanding figures of two for 32 in his nine overs, while Hardik Pandya took two for 44.

Pandya struck with two wickets in a row -- that of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to leave Pakistan in tatters in the middle overs.

Vijay Shankar made a handy contribution with the ball on his World Cup debut, taking two for 22.

It was a clinical showing with the ball by India, who were handicapped by the absence of Bhuvneshwar, who had to retire after bowling just 2.4 overs because of an injury.

Earlier, Earlier, Rohit Sharma smashed his second century in three innings and skipper Virat Kohli made 77 to power India to 336 for five after they were put into bat.

Put into bat under a grey sky, India got off to a strong start with KL Rahul, replacing injured Shikhar Dhawan at the top, and Rohit forging a 136-run stand for the opening wicket.

Rohit made 140 off 113 balls and raised 98 runs with Kohli but Mohammad Amir's tight bowling at the death overs denied India a 350-plus total.
