England 397-6 (50 ovs) vs Afg | Scorecard

Captain Eoin Morgan smashed his way into the record books, blasting 17 sixes - the most in a one-day international cricket innings - on his way to 148 off just 71 balls to power England to a mammoth 397 for six against Afghanistan in Manchester.

India's Rohit Sharma, West Indie's Chris Gayle and South Africa's AB de Villiers had shared the previous record of 16 sixes in a one-day international innings.

Morgan scored more than a hundred runs off sixes alone, and only hit four fours in his innings. After knocking his 17th six over the boundary rope, he was caught out next ball in the deep.

The left-hander's century was the fourth-fastest in World Cup history, scored in 57 balls, and he reached that milestone with a six as well.

It was a run-feast for the England batsmen as Jonny Bairstow stroked 90 from 99 balls, while Joe Root helped himself to 88 from 82 balls.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan had a forgettable outing, giving away 110 run in nine overs -- the most runs conceded by a bowler in ODIs.

England lost a few quick wickets at the end and narrowly missed out on the 400-run mark, as they lost four wickets for 35 runs in the space of 15 balls.
