England captain Joe Root has won the toss and elected to bat against India in the first Test in Nottingham.

India have gone in with five bowlers, including four pacers and a spinner.

KL Rahul will open the batting with Rohit Sharma, while Ravindra Jadeja gets the nod ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner.

Shardul Thakur is picked as the seam bowling all-rounder, while Mohammed Siraj is selected ahead of veteran Ishant Sharma to partner Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

With Ben Stokes absent, England have brought in all-rounder Sam Curran. The hosts have not picked a frontline spinner with Jonny Bairstow making a comeback.
