Session 2: 12 Noon to 14:40 PM

Tea Time at 14:40 PM to 15:00 PM

Final session: 15:00 PM to 17:30 PM
10:06   Rahane, Jadeja, Ishant out with injuries

The start of the second Test between India and New Zealand was delayed due to a wet outfield at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Mumbai received unseasonal rain during the last two days, which has left a lot of damp patches on the outfield, forcing the toss to be delayed.

The umpires, who inspected the conditions at 9.30am IST, will conduct another inspection at 10.30am.

India were dealt three injury blows ahead of the start of play.

Ajinkya Rahane, who led the side in Kanpur in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli, was ruled out of the Mumbai Test, along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Ishant Sharma.

Ishant had dislocated his left little finger while Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the Kanpur test, the BCCI added.

Meanwhile, New Zealand also suffered a blow as captain Kane Williamson was ruled out of the match with an elbow injury.

Williamson has been dealing with the tendon injury since it first emerged in the New Zealand home summer, New Zealand Cricket said in a media release.

Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in the Mumbai Test.
10:03   Rahane, Jadeja, Ishant out with injuries

India have also suffered a spate of injuries with Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma ruled out.

image
08:49   Umpires to conduct inspection at 9.30am IST

Welcome to the coverage of the second and final Test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai on Friday.

The toss has been delayed because of a wet outfield caused by a spell of heavy rain over the last two days.

"Update from Mumbai: The toss has been delayed. There will be a pitch inspection at 9:30AM," BCCI said.

There are a lot of damp patches on the outfield including the bowlers' runups, and few areas around the square. With the weather still overcast in Mumbai, we could be in for a long delay on the opening day.
08:47   Will India leave out Rahane or Pujara?

India will hope the return of regular captain Virat Kohli proves to be the difference when they take on New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Debutant Rachin Ravindra and No 11 batter Ajaz Patel combined in a last-wicket stand for New Zealand during the last session in Kanpur to see out the final 52 balls to deny India victory and leave the two-match series evenly poised.

While Kohli's return after a rest will be a welcome boost for the second-ranked Test side's batting, it will also leave them with a selection headache.

In Kohli's absence, Shreyas Iyer made a dream debut with a first-innings 105 followed by a crucial 65 in the second.

Calls have grown to drop either Ajinkya Rahane, who led India in Kanpur, or Cheteshwar Pujara - both of whom have been short of runs - to vacate a spot for Kohli and allow Iyer to retain his place.

It remains to be seen if KS Bharat, who is likely to replace Wriddhiman Saha as the wicektkeeper, takes over the opening role from Mayank Agarwal which allows India to play both Pujara and Rahane.
