The start of the second Test between India and New Zealand was delayed due to a wet outfield at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Mumbai received unseasonal rain during the last two days, which has left a lot of damp patches on the outfield, forcing the toss to be delayed.

The umpires, who inspected the conditions at 9.30am IST, will conduct another inspection at 10.30am.

India were dealt three injury blows ahead of the start of play.

Ajinkya Rahane, who led the side in Kanpur in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli, was ruled out of the Mumbai Test, along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Ishant Sharma.

Ishant had dislocated his left little finger while Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the Kanpur test, the BCCI added.

Meanwhile, New Zealand also suffered a blow as captain Kane Williamson was ruled out of the match with an elbow injury.

Williamson has been dealing with the tendon injury since it first emerged in the New Zealand home summer, New Zealand Cricket said in a media release.

Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in the Mumbai Test.
