Ishant Sharma receives a special Test cap and a memento to mark his 100th Test match from the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah.

Virat Kohli and Joe Root introduce their players to the dignitaries, followed by their national anthems.

Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to congratulate Ishant on reaching his 100th Test match. Tendulkar tweeted, "Playing 100 Tests is a great landmark for any cricketer, especially a fast bowler. Have seen you play from your U-19 days & played alongside you in your 1st Test. Proud of you & your service to #TeamIndia. Continue to serve in the best possible manner. Congrats @ImIshant!"

Captain Virat Kohli revealed that even he would have elected to bat too.

India's veteran pacer Ishant Sharma gets his landmark 100th Test match. The 32-year-old Ishant is only the second Indian pacer after the legendary Kapil Dev to play in 100 Tests.

The pitch looks drier, and the cracks can be seen. The red soil will give an extra bounce.

Check out the playing XIs:

13:45   Motera: India face tough test vs England

Welcome to the coverage of the third Test match between India and England in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

A virgin Motera pitch has become the big talking point as captain Virat Kohli looks to get the combination right with India looking to continue their momentum to trouble England in the day-night third Test.

Ahmedabad as a cricketing venue has been witness to a lot of cricketing feats in Indian cricket -- from Sunil Gavaskar's famous late cut to complete 10,000 runs in Tests to Kapil Dev's best bowling figures of 9/83 and also him eclipsing Richard Hadlee's then world record of highest wickets.

On Wednesday, Ishant Sharma joining Kapil as the second Indian pacer to play 100 Tests would add to the momentous occasion and Kohli scoring a hundred is just what the 55,000 odd spectators, who would be allowed in, might crave for.

The refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium looks colossal under lights but the first Test match in many years would mean that even the home team wouldn't expect a lot of advantage.

It would prefer a square turner to go 2-1 up in a high-stakes game but whether it actually gets one remains to be seen.

But this England team, with Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, will pose a far greater challenge.
