Sri Lanka beat India by 3 wickets to win the 3rd ODI by the Duckworth-Lewis method in Colombo on Friday. 

They get the 10 points to qualify for the 2023 ICC World Cup.

Chasing 227 in a rain-delayed match, opener Fernando and No 3 batsman Rajapaksa struck half tons and a 109-run partnership that set up the win for the hosts.

Rahul Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 3 for 54 runs.

The match was reduced to a 47-over-a-side affair after rain interruption in the first innings.

Opting to bat, India were all out for 225 in 43.1 overs. Prithvi Shaw (49), Sanju Samson (46) and Suryakumar Yadav (40) were the notable contributors but none could score big.

For Sri Lanka, Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama took three wickets apiece.

Akila Dhananjaya is the new man in and he starts with a cut through square for a four.

That is a no ball because there were not enough fielders in the ring.

Free hit but Akila can manage a single as he loses his bat in the process.

Mendis sweeps the ball to fine leg for a single and Sri Lanka win by 3 wickets. 

R Chahar continues and Mendis goes on the back foot, the ball hits the back pad and flares up. Dhawan appeals for a catch in the slips. Not out says the umpire and right he was.

Mendis then sweeps the ball to backward square leg for a single.

After a dot and surviving a googly, Karunaratne is stumped. Third umpires services are called in and he says it's out as Karunatne out for 3 as Sri Lanka need 7 to win. 

Sakariya continues and Karunaratne plays three dots before pulling the ball to deep square for a couple. 

Karunaratne plays two dots to end the over as 2 come off it. 

Karunaratne is the new man in and after a dot, he gets off the mark with a single. 

Mendis then gets a couple to fine leg. Dot to end the over as 4 come off it. 

R Chahar continues and Mendis starts the over with a single before Fernando takes a big stride and plays for the turn but the ball takes his edge and he is caught in the slips. He goes for a well-made 76. 

Chahar continues and he beats Mendis off a googly first ball. 

Mendis then gets a couple to wide off gully. 

Mendis then sweeps the ball to fine leg for a four. 

A single later, Fernando plays a dot and then gets a single to long off as 8 come off it. 

Hardik continues and the batsmen take three singles before Mendis gets four off leg byes. A single to end the over as 8 come off it.

Saini continues and after two dots, Asalanka gets a couple to deep square leg. Three dots to end the over as 2 come off it.

Sakaria continues and after a dot and no ball, he bowls another. Free hit for Asalanka. 

Full ball and the batsman slashes it through square on the off side for a single. 

The batsmen take five singles as 8 come off the over. 

Saini back in the attack as Asalanka comes in to bat. Just three runs come in the over. 

Sakaria continues, after a dot, he bowls a wide down leg. 

After three dots, Sakaria bowls a slow bouncer that takes off on pitching, brushing the gloves of the batsman on the way, Sakaria takes the catch on his follow through and Sri Lanka are three down now. 2 runs and a wicket come in the over.

Chahar back in the attack and Dhananjaya is the new man in. 5 runs including a no ball come in the over. 

Chahar continues and Rajapaksa gets a single to start the over. After a dot, Fernando gets a single, before Rajapaksa gets a couple of fours and gets to his maiden half-century. Dot to end the over as 10 come off it. 

Rana continues and the batsmen take singles and twos as 6 come off the over. 

Chahar continues and the runs are flowing for the hosts as 7 come off it. 

Rana continues and three come off the over as Fernando completes a well-made half-century. 

After drinks, Rahul Chahar is back in the attack.

Rana brought into the attack now and will look to find a wicket with his off spin.

After a dot, Rajapaksa gets a slight inside edge and the ball goes past the keeper for a four. 

Two dots and a wide later, Rajapaksa gets to the pitch of the ball and smacks it through covers for a four. 10 come off the over.

Gowtham continues and Fernando starts the over with a single. 

Rajapaksa survives an LBW appeal and two dots before getting a single to the covers.

Hardik into the attack now and Fernando is motoring on with twos and singles. Rajapaksa then gets a couple with a slice over covers. 

A dot later, Rajapaksa pulls the ball for a boundary to the cow corner region before ending the over with another four over the keeper's head.

Rajapaksa then gets his second boundary as he cuts the ball through the point region after backing away a bit. What a shot!

Rajapaksa now gets into the act as he somehow sends the ball down the ground for a four.

Bhanuka sweeps but it goes straight in the hands of Sakaria and that is a maiden ODI wicket for Gowtham.

Sakaria opens the bowling a the other end as after a dot, he gives some width and Fernando latches on it and smacks it through the off side for a four.

Avishka Fernando and M Bhanuka open  the batting for the Lankans while Saini opens the bowling for India.

After a dot, Bhanuka gets a leading edge but it flies over the in-field and he gets off the mark with a couple.

India have collapsed here after the rain break thanks to some brilliant bowling by spinner Akila Dhananjaya. 

Saini is the new man in and he is narrowly beaten. 

Rahul Chahar is the new man in and he gets off the mark with a single of the first ball he faces.

Rana out next ball as Dhananjaya tosses the ball up, inviting Rana to drive, he gets the edge and caught behind for 7.

Spinner Dhananjaya continues and Gowtham and Rana take a single each of the first two balls before Dhananjaya strikes again! Gowtham is wrapped on the pads, big shout for LBW, yes says the umpire. Gowtham takes the review and loses it as he has to walk back to the pavillion. 

A drizzle has turned into rain as the players have been taken off the field and play is stopped as the covers come out. 

India's batsmen started the innings well with Shaw (49) and Sanju Samson (46) rebuilding after Dhawan's early dismissal.

The duo batted briskly to take India past the 100-run mark inside 20 overs. After they departed, Suryakumar started from where he left off in the previous match, looking in fine touch. He and Pandey were at the crease when rain stopped play. 

Jayawickrama continues and Suryakumar plays across the line as he tries to slog, is hit on the pads and big shout for LBW. Umpire raises the finger. India take the review. Ultraedge shows there is no bat involved. The players are waiting for the decision. The third umpire is yet to check ball tracking. Ball tracking shows the impact was outside off, wickets hitting but the onfield umpire was made to change his decision. Surya survives! 

After a dot, Surya sweeps again and this time he slogs it in the vacant area at deep backward square leg for a four. 

A dot later, Surya plays the ball to the leg side for a single.

Samson plays the ball straight to mid-off and is gone for 46 off 46. His wonderful innings come to a close in a freak way as he tries to walk down the track and smash it over the infield. Not to be and India lose their third wicket.

Offie Mendis in the attack now and after a dot, Samson clobbers him for back-to-back fours as he looks ominous under the dark Colombo skies.

Shanaka brings himself on and Samson starts the over with a single to the leg side.

Shaw then plays three dots before Shaw goes across his stumps, is hit low on the pads, big shout for LBW and the umpire raises the finger. 

India take the review and they lose it as ball tracking shows the ball was pitching in line and the impact was in line. 

Shaw gone for 49. India lose 2nd wicket. 

Jayawickrama continues and Shaw starts the over with a couple to mid-wicket.

Tosses up and Shaw slogs it over mid-wicket for a four.

Another boundary next ball as Shaw swivels and plays it down to square leg for a four. 

Third boundary in a row for Shaw who picks the ball from outside off side and sweeps it through the leg side for a four. A dot to end the over as 100 comes up for India.

Dhananjaya continues and Samson starts the over with a single. After a dot, Shaw then plays the ball to sweeper cover for a single.

Samson then gets a couple as he plays the ball to extra cover.

Left-arm spinner Jayawickrama in the attack now and after a dot, Shaw takes a single before Samson dances down and smacks the flighted delivery over mid-on for a four to bring up the 50-run partnership.

Dhananjaya continues and five singles come in the over as the batsmen rotate strike well.

Karunaratne continues, overpitches and Shaw plays it back to the bowler.

After three dots, Samson gets on top of the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket for a four to end the over. 5 come off the over.

Dhananjaya continues and Shaw dances down and plays the ball to long on for a single.

After a dot, Dhananjaya gets some bounce and turn to beat the Samson.

Samson then dances down and he smashes the ball over the bowler or a massive six!

Karunaratne continues and after three dots, Shaw gets a single.

Samson then slashes at the short ball and lucky for him it fell just wide of the third man fielder running in to take the catch but the ball beats him to the boundary.

While Shikhar Dhawan-led India won the first game by seven wickets, Deepak Chahar pulled a heist in the second one with his match-winning unbeaten 69 as the visitors won by three wickets.

Now, it remains to be seen whether India continue with Prithvi Shaw, who got scores of 43 and 13, to partner the skipper at the top, or go in for classy Devdutt Padikkal or an equally elegant Ruturaj Gaikwad -- both superb List A players.

If Shaw gets another opportunity, he would be more than keen to get a big score, as he failed to convert his start in the first game.
