Southee tempts Kohli with the wide full delivery which Kohli leaves alone as it swings away late.

He pitches the next closer to the stumps as Kohli defends it off the frontfoot.

Southee bowls a cracking bouncer to Kohli, who tries to get out of the way but is hit on the helmet as the ball goes over the slips for four leg byes.

The India captain flicks the next delivery through midwicket to pick up three runs as Southee bowls it right up this time around.

Jamieson to bowl the final over of the day. He also tests Kohli with the bouncer but it goes high over him and is called a wide.

Kohli flicks the next through midwicket for a couple and gets a thick inside edge off the fifth ball for two more runs.

He drives the last ball straight for a single to retain strike for Day 6.

India finish Day 5 on 64/2 in 30 overs with Kohli on eight and Pujara on 12. They lead New Zealand by 32 runs.

They will look to bat out the reserve day on Wednesday and draw the WTC final.

Earlier, Mohammed Shami took 4/76 but New Zealand's lower order steered them to 249 to take a 32-run first innings lead.

Southee comes back into the attack. He dents India with the big wicket of Rohit, who is trapped leg before wicket for 30.

Rohit misjudges the swing completely as he offers no shot hoping the ball would move away but it comes in a long way and strikes him on the pads.

The umpire immediately rules him out leg before wicket and he walks off without taking the review.

Even if Rohit would have taken the review, the decision would have stood on the umpire's call.

India reduced to 51/2 in 27 overs, with around 15 minutes left for close.

Virat Kohli walks in at No 4 with not much time left for stumps instead of sending in a nightwatchman.

Rohit plays a loose shot, driving Jamieson from away his body, but it falls short of the fielder at point. He had fallen in a similar fashion in the first innings when played away from his body and was caught in the slips.

A single to Rohit off the fifth ball on the leg side and Pujara blocks out the last ball.

Wagner overpitches as Rohit plays a nice cover drive but can't get it in the gap. He slaps the next ball through the covers and this time in the gap for a couple of runs.

He then pulls a short ball from Wagner for a single before Pujara leaves the last two balls.

Rohit again guilty of playing away from his body. He goes chasing after a wide outswinger from Jamieson and is beaten.

Rohit flicks a full delivery from Jamieson through midwicket for two runs before he defends the rest of the over.

Some extra bounce for Boult from round the wicket as Pujara gets hit high on the bat while trying to defend.

He tries a bouncer to unsettle Pujara, who easily ducks under it before he blocks the next and offers no shot to the last ball.

New Zealand trying their best to pick up another wicket or two before the break.

Rohit showing great application as he plays out a maiden over from Jamieson.

No signs yet of left-arm pacer Neil Wagner as Boult continues with 20 overs still left in the day.

Boult overpitches from round the wicket trying to angle it in and Pujara plays a beautiful straight drive for a boundary.

Jamieson bowls it closer to the stumps as Rohit leans forward and defends before he leaves the next two.

Another block from Rohit before he steals a quick single on the off-side and Pujara leaves the last ball.

Change in the bowling as Wagner comes into the attack to bowl the 22nd over.

The first ball is short but down the leg side as Rohit misses the attempted pull shot. He is beaten again trying to flick the next ball before an inside edge gets him a single.

Pujara is beaten by a full delivery from Wagner, who gets the ball to move away past the outside edge.

Jamieson comes back into the attack as he replaces Southee. Pujara defends the first few balls before he misses the incoming delivery and is hit high on the pads before playing out the last two balls.

Rohit has once again curtailed his free flowing approach as he looks to bat out time.

He watchfully defends the first two balls against Boult and then clips a full delivery to deep midwicket for one.

Pujara also at his solid best as he blocks out the last three balls.

Jamieson produces a beauty, movement and bounce, as Rohit pokes forward and is beaten all ends up. He defends the next few balls before he gets an edge off the last ball which goes past gully for two runs.
22:15   Gill out for 8; India lose 1st wicket

Jamieson bowls it wide but Pujara happy to leave it alone. The first three balls are left alone before he bowls one close to the stumps which is defended.

The last ball jags in sharply as Pujara looks to flick but is struck high on the pads.

Southee continues with the ball, his seventh in a row in the first spell. He gets the ball to move away as Rohit is opened up and gets it off the outside half of the bat towards gully.

He then taps the next on the leg side for a single before Pujara ducks under a bouncer and blocks out the last two balls.

Trent Boult is back into the attack. Rohit takes on the short ball as he mishits the pull but it falls safely to get him a single.

Boult gets the full delivery to swing in sharply as Pujara gets it off the inside half of the bat, as it falls just short of the fielder at short leg.

A few balls later, Pujara clips an overpitched delivery on the stumps through midwicket for three runs, to level scores.

Southee's inswinger drifts on the pads as Gill clips it through square leg for two runs.

He plays a nice drive but can't get it in the gap on the off-side before defending the next.

Gill drives the last ball straight as it bounces over the bowler for a couple of runs followed by another two runs off the last ball through midwicket.

Kyle Jamieson, who took five wickets in the first innings, is back into the attack.

He starts with a no-ball which Rohit flicks off his pads for a couple of runs.

He blocks the next few balls before Rohit pokes away from his body and is beaten.

Southee makes the first breakthrough with the wicket of Gill. The right-hander shuffles across and misses the flick off the full delivery and is struck right in front to fall leg before wicket for eight.

He has a chat with his partner Rohit, before deciding to walk off without taking the review as India lose an early wicket.

India still eight away from wiping the deficit but have lost their first wicket.

Cheteshwar Pujara clips the full incoming delivery to fine leg for a single to get off the mark.

Rohit steers the last ball between point and gully for a couple of runs.

Rohit very watchful against his Mumbai Indians team mate Boult, as he shows great application to defend the new ball.

Boult looks to change angles as he switches to round the wicket after five dot balls in a row.

But he ends up bowling a half-tracker which Rohit slaps behind point for a four.

In the next over, Southee gets the ball to come in sharply to Gill, who is struck high on the pads but the leg before shout is turned down.

Southee mixing it quite well, looking mix the inswinger with the away going deliveries but Gill is watching it carefully and blocking it out with caution.

Boult bowls a full toss to Rohit, who is unable to get it in the gap as he hits it to the fielder in the covers. He throws his bat at a wide delivery and is lucky not to have edged it.

Boult follows it up with a poor delivery, full and down the leg side, as Rohit glances it fine for a four.

Southee gets the ball to swing away from Rohit, who pokes and is beaten on the outside edge. Two balls later, Rohit gets the edge but it falls well short of the slips as the opener plays it with soft hands.

Southee bowling on a good length and making Rohit play, and he does well to play out the last three balls for a maiden over.

Boult drifts on the pads as gets the ball to jag in and Gill clips it through square leg for two runs.

The next ball again comes in sharply but this time Gill misses the clip and is struck on the pads but the LBW shout is turned down.

Boult overpitches as Gill plays a nice straight down which the pacer stops on his follow through.

Southee bowls a wide outswinger as Rohit offers no shot and blocks the next before he pushes the third ball for a single.

Short and swinging into him as Gill adjusts well to clip it to midwicket.

India's openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will be looking to replicate their efforts of the first innings by playing out the new ball and build a solid platform for the middle order.

Tim Southee opens the bowling for New Zealand. Rohit offers no shot to the first ball before he gets the next off the outside half of the bat past gully for three runs to get off the mark.

Gill also gets the next ball off the outside half of the bat but it goes to the fielder in the gully.

The next few balls are left alone as Southee gets it to swing away from the right-hander. The last ball jags in sharply as Gill offers no shot and it goes over the stumps.

Left-arm pacer Trent Boult from the other end. Rohit taps the first ball to square leg for a single and Gill blocks the next with caution.

The next three balls are left alone as Boult slides it across the right-hander to end the second over.

Shami is back into the attack. Boult tries to uppercut the first ball but is beaten before he taps the next ball straight back.

Shami goes full as Boult lofts it straight down the ground for a four.

Boult goes a long way across his stumps and clips Shami's last ball through square leg for two runs.

Ashwin continues as he looks to bowl it tight to Southee, not giving it much air.

Southee waiting for the flighted delivery as he blocks out the first few balls. The fifth ball is pitched up as Southee goes for the swing but gets a thick inside edge. He keeps strike with a single off the last ball to long-on.

Spin from both ends as Jadeja comes into the attack. Southee swings the first ball high over midwicket for a huge six.

Jadeja gets revenge next ball as Southee inside edges it back on to his stumps off the pads to be bowled for 30.

New Zealand are bowled out for 249, taking a handy first innings lead of 32 runs.

Shami leads the team off the field, having taken 4/76, while Ishant claimed 3/48 and Ashwin took 2/28.

The New Zealand lower order chipped in with the bat to help their team take the lead.

The last four wickets put on 87 runs after New Zealand were reduced to 162/6 at one stage.

Jamieson stroked 21 from 16 balls, while Southee made 30 to boost the total.

Devon Conway was the top scorer for New Zealand with 54, while Williamson battled hard to score 49.

Ashwin into the attack for the first time on Day 5. Southee slaps the second ball through the covers for a four as Ashwin gives him some width. Two balls later, he runs the ball on the off-side behind point for a single before Neil Wagner plays out the last two balls.

Southee on the attack. He swings the length ball from Ishant over mid-on and even though it hasn't come off the middle it has gone all the way for a six.

Kohli urging Ishant to try the slower ball which he does as Southee taps it on the off-side.

Southee shuffles across a long way as Ishant tries to target the leg stump but ends up bowling it down the leg side.

Another slower ball from Ishant which again slips down the leg side.

The right-hander then clips a full delivery through square leg for two runs. He plays a cracking drive off the last ball but the fielder in the cover does well to stop it.

Ashwin bowls a beauty to get rid of Wagner for a duck. He gets the ball to turn sharply and bounce as the left-hander looks to defend but the ball takes the edge and Rahane after an initial fumble takes it on the rebound.

Trent Boult comes down the track and drives Ashwin to mid-on for a single.

Southee sweeps the last ball as it goes off his pads and is taken by Kohli at leg slip. He immediately takes the review after the umpire rules it out.

There is nothing on the UltraEdge as the ball passes the bat and the decision has to be overturned.

The last ball turns sharply as Southee is unable to get a single off it.

20:30   Williamson out for 49; NZ 8 down

Ishant is back into the attack. Williamson punches the first ball to deep point for a single.

Southee looks to hit the next ball straight as he miscues it back to the bowler, who barely has time to react and take the catch on his follow through.

Shami strays on the pads as Southee misses the flick but gets a leg bye with the ball going fine off the pads.

A single each to Williamson and Southee before the New Zealand captain cuts the last ball for a four to give New Zealand the lead.

Ishant makes the breakthrough with the key wicket of Williamson, who is caught by Kohli in the slips after a long vigil of 49 runs from 177 balls.

A rare loose shot from Williamson, as he looks to punch the wide outswinger from Ishant but gets the edge.
20:11   Shami picks 4th wicket; NZ 7 down

Bumrah bowls a good full delivery to Tim Southee as it comes in sharply and he manages to inside edge it back on to his pads.

The next ball is again full as Southee drives it to mid-off.

Bumrah goes for the indipping yorker as Southee gets a thick inside edge on to his pads.

Southee gets an edge off the fifth delivery but it falls just short of Rohit at second slip, who does well to take it on the half-volley.

The last ball is a full toss as Southee clips it to deep square leg for two runs to get off the mark.

Shami bowls a wayward delivery, full and down the leg side as Williamson glances it fine for a four.

The next ball is again too straight as Williamson nudges it fine off his pads but this time just for one.

A thick outside edge off Southee to bring up New Zealand's 200.

Williamson flicks the last ball past the fielder at mid-on to pick up a couple of runs.

Southee pokes at a wide delivery from Bumrah as the edge goes on the bounce to the slips fielder. He then lofts a full delivery from Bumrah back over his head for a couple of runs before clipping the next to fine leg for one.

A good short ball from Shami as Southee tries to duck but gets hit on the back as the ball goes fine for four leg byes.

Another bouncer as Southee is easily able to duck under it before he flashes at one away from his body and is beaten.

Southee then gets a big leading edge as he tries to flick it but the ball flies over the fielder at point for two runs.

Ishant gets the ball to swing in as Jamieson gets a thick inside edge for two runs through square leg.

He then punches Ishant on the up through the covers for another couple of runs.

Jamieson not holding back. He goes after a full wide delivery from Ishant looking to smash it down the ground but is beaten as the ball moves away.

He goes hard again but this time the ball goes off the outside half of the bat through the covers for two runs.

Jamieson miscues the fifth ball uppishly but it goes to the right of the fielder at mid-off for another couple of runs.

He slogs the last ball in the gap through midwicket where Jadeja does well with the slide to keep it inside the boundary and keep it down to two runs.

10 runs from the Ishant over will force India into a rethink, with their deficit down to 42 runs.

Shami looking to nip the ball back in from wide of the crease. But Williamson is up to the task as he clips Shami for a couple through square leg and does the same next ball.

Williamson then plays a loose shot, poking at a wide delivery as the ball narrowly misses the edge.

He then beats Williamson with the incoming delivery, who looks to defend but is hit on the pads. The umpire turns down the appeal before Kohli decides to take the review.

The point of impact is the umpire's call as so is hitting the wickets and the ball tracker shows it is hitting the outside of the off-stump.

A narrow escape for Williamson but it is Shami, who continues to make things happen for India with the ball.

Bumrah is back into the attack. He beats Jamieson first ball with the outswinger as the right-hander plays away from his body. He gets the next ball in the gap through the covers for a single.

Williamson very watchful against Bumrah, who gets the ball to shape into the Kiwi captain as he plays out the last four balls.

In the next over, Jamieson gets a thick outside edge for a single before Williamson pulls a short ball over square leg for a four and then takes a single.

Shami tries the short ball as Jamieson goes for the pull which he misses. But he gets the next ball bang off the middle as he lofts it straight down the ground for a six.

Shami gets revenge off the very next delivery. Jamieson goes for the pull which he top edges and Bumrah takes a well-judged catch on the fine leg fence to for a quickfire 21 from 16 balls.

Ishant from the other end. He starts with the short ball as de Grandhomme pulls it square with Jadeja doing well on the boundary to keep it down to just a single.

Williamson has changed his approach and is looking a lot more positive now. He punches Ishant but straight to the fielder in the covers, he was leaving such deliveries in the morning session.

Shami continues his wicket ways. This time the incoming delivery traps de Grandhomme leg before wicket for 13.

Shami has been magnificent with his length. De Grandhomme caught on the crease and is trapped in front as he decides to walk back without the review.

Shami keeps India in the contest as New Zealand are reduced to 162/6.

Kyle Jamieson defends the first few balls before he drives Shami straight down the ground for three runs to get off the mark.

19:17   Williamson, de Grandhomme steady NZ

NZ 161-5 (81 ovs) vs  India 217 | Scorecard

Bumrah bowling much straighter than he was doing in his earlier spells. The intent is to make the batsmen play and Williamson easily blocks out another maiden over.

Jadeja to bowl another over with the second ball due after this. He fires the quicker delivery down the leg side as de Grandhomme glances it fine for one.

Slightly short from Jadeja as Williamson rocks back and punches it on the off-side but can't get it in the gap.

New Zealand are 152/5 in 80 overs with Williamson on 24 and de Grandhomme on 11.

No surprise as India immediately take the second new ball and Shami is back into the attack.

He makes an impression off the first ball as de Grandhomme goes after the wide delivery which swings away to go past the edge.

The right-hander steers the second ball past the fielder in the gully for a single.

Shami drifts on the pads as Williamson misses the glance but it brushes the pads and goes fine for four leg byes.

The runs are flowing freely against the new ball. Shami goes short and wide as Williamson cuts it uppishly over point for a four.

The first over with the new ball has gone for nine runs.
19:05   Shami, Ishant put India on top

De Grandhomme won't hold back despite the circumstances. He pulls Bumrah which doesn't go off the middle but clears midwicket for two runs.

The man is pushed back to midwicket and de Grandhomme taps the next ball to the same region for an easy single.

De Grandhomme's positive approach has lifted New Zealand's scoring rate, forcing India into the defensive.

Jadeja continues as India look to rest their pacers ahead of the new ball, which is due after five overs.

The first ball is clipped to midwicket by de Grandhomme before he drives the next into the covers.

Some flight from Jadeja as the right-hander defends it back to the bowler and then nudges the quicker ball on the leg side, following by two more dots for a super quick maiden over by the spinner.

Williamson continues to defend as he looks to tire out the Indian pacers with his dogged approach.

Bumrah bowling closer to the stumps as Williamson defends the first four balls before he runs a wide delivery past gully for a couple.

With the field spread around, de Grandhomme does well to tap Jadeja on the leg side for a single.

Williamson comes down and blunts Jadeja's flighted delivery on the pitch. He then tries to cut Jadeja but is beaten by the extra bounce as wicketkeeper Pant is interested but the umpire is unmoved.

Williamson cuts a short ball as Gill puts in the dive at point to keep it down to a single.

Two runs from the over as New Zealand go past the 150-run mark.
18:52   Shami, Ishant put India on top

Bumrah to open the bowling in the post-lunch session. He starts with a full wide delivery which Colin de Grandhomme drives through the covers for a four, to start the session in positive fashion.

He defends the next and then tries to pull a delivery which is not that short, inside edging it on to his pads.

Bumrah goes full as de Grandhomme drives it to mid-off and then leaves a wide delivery and does the same last ball.

Spin from the other end as Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack. Williamson nudges the second ball on the leg side for a single and de Grandhomme defends the next.

India have employed three fielders in the deep -- long-off, long-on and deep midwicket for de Grandhomme against the spinner of Jadeja.

The right-hander sensibly clips the fifth ball for a single and Jadeja also oversteps to concede another extra run.

Williamson keeps the scoreboard ticking as he taps Jadeja to fine leg for one and de Grandhomme does the same last ball, to get four runs from the over.

Bumrah oversteps to concede another no-ball as Nicholls defends the first few deliveries before taking a single to fine leg.

The last ball is overpitched on the pads as Williamson clips it through square leg for a rare boundary, only his second from 104 balls faced.

Ishant comes back into the attack. He makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Nicholls, who plays away from his body and gets the edge with Rohit taking a good catch at second slip, diving to his right.

A big boost for India as New Zealand are reduced to 134/4, still trailing India by 83 runs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Watling walks out to bat in his last Test match. He gets off the mark with a single to fine leg before Williamson is beaten as Ishant gets it to hold its line.

Shami comes back from the other end with around 10 minutes for lunch.

It is a very good move from the Indians as the impressive Shami cleans up Watling. The full length delivery moves away enough to beat Watling's defence and crash into the off and middle stump.

Colin de Grandhomme walks in at No 7. He will need to play out the last few minutes of the session and not give India another wicket before the lunch interval.

New Zealand have lost three wickets for 18 runs in the space of nearly seven overs.

Ishant continues as Williamson continues to defend resolutely and keeps the Indians at bay from his end.

The ball is 71 overs old but it continues to swing a long way but Williamson is up to the task, playing it late and with utmost caution.

Williamson gets the edge as he pokes at a wide delivery but he has played with soft hands as the ball goes along the ground to the slips.

New Zealand go into the lunch break on 135/5 in 72 overs, trailing India by 82 runs.

Shami was instrumental in India's fine showing with the ball taking 2/31, while Ishant bagged 2/27 as New Zealand lost a few late wickets.

Williamson was unbeaten on 19 from 112 balls, with de Grandhomme yet to open his account.

Overall, New Zealand lost three wickets in the morning session, scoring 34 from 23 overs.

17:44   Taylor out for 11; NZ lose 3rd wicket

Bumrah comes back into the attack in place of Shami, who was again India's best bowler as he made things happen.

Williamson is watchful as ever as he plays out the over from Bumrah, who is yet to get his line right in the match.

Change of ends for Shami and that works the trick for India.

Taylor tries to drive the full delivery from Shami but hits it uppishly and is caught in the covers by a diving Gill for 11.

Shami gets rewarded for his persistence as he kept plugging in the channel, bowling a lot fuller than his colleagues. This time Taylor was sucked into the drive which he failed to keep down and Gill did well to dive full length to his right and take a superb catch while in flight.

New batsman Henry Nicholls gets a leading edge first ball which goes through the covers for one to get him off the mark.

Williamson clips a full delivery off his pads to fine leg for one.

Shami gets the ball to move away quite late, after passing the stumps, as wicketkeeper Pant is unable to reach it as it goes away for four byes.

Bumrah bowls a beauty to Williamson, who is up to the task, watching the ball till the very last minute before withdrawing from the poke.

Two balls later, he plays a loose shot, throwing his bat at a wide delivery trying to slash it square but is beaten.

The next ball is full and closer to the stumps as Williamson plays and misses in trying to defend it.

In the next over, Shami has a huge appeal for caught behind against Nicholls turned down. He bowls a good short ball which jags in sharply as Nicholls looks to fend it but it passes close to the edge.

The next ball is again short but wide as Nicholls cuts it behind point for a four. The left-hander then inside edges a full delivery trying to defend for a single to fine leg.

Williamson has been quite watchful, just looking to survive on Day 5. So far, he has managed just five runs from 60 balls faced in the morning session.

Bumrah keeps it full as Nicholls is hit on the pads trying to defend but the ball has pitched outside the line of leg stump.

Two balls later, Nicholls is again struck on the pads but again no chance of leg before wicket as Bumrah bowls another maiden over.

Williamson looks in no rush. Shami bowls a wide half-volley which the Kiwi captain gently drives off the front foot to the fielder at mid-off.

The last ball swings away and also bounces as Williamson does well to keep it down.

Infact, this is Williamson's slowest ever innings in Test cricket, scoring just 15 runs from his first 100 balls faced.

"Just 15 runs from the 100 balls Kane Williamson has faced. Williamson has never scored fewer runs from the first 100 balls of a Test innings," cricvizanalyst tweeted.

Shami bowls full as Taylor drives it straight back but misses out on some runs as the ball hits the stumps at the non-striker's end.

Shami gets some late movement as Taylor does well to drag his bat inside the line after initially looking to poke and manages to play out the rest of the over with caution.

Ishant attacking the stumps with a few fielders on the leg side. The first ball is full and comes in and Williamson taps it towards midwicket but the next ball slips down the leg side.

Williamson gets a single off an inside edge before Taylor gloves the short ball trying to glance it as wicketkeeper Pant dives across but can't get to it, and the ball goes fine for a four.

That takes the New Zealand total to 117/2, exactly 100 runs behind India's first innings total.

Taylor then plays a loose shot, throwing his bat at a wide delivery without any footwork and is beaten on the inside edge.

Some late inswing for Shami as Williamson leaves and Pant again does well to stop it on the bounce despite the movement.

The third ball is sliding down the leg side as Williamson misses the glance but manages to keep out the rest of the over with caution.

Ishant keeps it on the stumps to Taylor, who is looking to play straight as he defends it mid-on.

Good bowling from Ishant, full and coming in sharply with Taylor doing well to block.

Taylor flicks a full delivery through midwicket where Rahane puts in the dive to save some runs.

New Zealand are 117/2 in 62 overs having successfully negotiated the first hour without any damage, scoring 16 runs from 13 overs in the first hour.

Taylor plays Ishant off his pads on the leg side for a single before Williamson is struck on the abdomen by a quick incoming delivery.

Williamson is hit on the pads as he tries the flick but the leg before shout is turned down.

Williamson taps the last ball on the leg side for a single for his first runs on the Day 5.

Bumrah again guilty of bowling too wide, not making the batsmen play enough. A few easy leaves for Williamson before Bumrah gets his line close to the stumps but the length is short and is easily blocked.

Bumrah finally gets one to pitch in the perfect channel as Williamson keeps it out with a frontfoot block but the last ball is left alone.

Shami comes into the attack in place of Ishant. He gets the first ball to swing a long way as Taylor leaves and wicketkeeper Pant has to dive to his right to stop it in front of first slip.

The next ball again swings big but the length is a bit short as Taylor again has time to get his bat out of the way.

Shami goes full and this time Taylor drives it through the covers for the first boundary on Day 5.

The fourth ball bounces more than expected as Taylor is hit high on the bat for a quick single on the off-side.

Shami gets the ball to come in sharply as Williamson is hit on the pads but the impact is too high and saves him from the leg before shout.

A superb first over from Shami as he bowled in the right areas and created a few problems for the batsmen.

Change of ends for Ishant. The first ball is down the leg side as Taylor gets it off his pads past the dive of Pant for a leg bye.

Some sharp inswing for Ishant off the full length as Williamson is hit around the abdomen area as he attempts to block.

Bumrah making an attempt to pitch the ball full and closer to the stumps to make the batsmen play.

He starts his new over with a wide delivery which Williamson leaves and then defends the incoming ball with caution.

Another leave from the Kiwi captain before he solidly defends the next and ignores the fifth pitched down the leg side.

He ends the over with another watchful defensive shot off the frontfoot.

At the other end, Ishant looking to bowl straight and full and strike Taylor on the pads, who has a tendency to fall over while playing it on the leg side.

After defending the first three balls, Taylor is struck on the pads trying to clip it on the leg side but the leg before shout is turned down.

Captain Kohli discusses with his bowler before deciding against the review and rightly so as the ball was slipping down the leg stump.

A good sharp bounce from Ishant as Williamson looks interested in the pull shot but bails out if seeing the height of the delivery and blocks out the last ball.

In the next over, Taylor gets off strike as he pushes Bumrah into the covers for a single.

Bumrah follows it up with a yorker to Williamson, who ducks under it. The next couple of balls are left alone before the last ball is blocked out.

Finally, play gets underway at Southampton after the start was delayed by an hour because of rain.

Jasprit Bumrah to open the bowling for India, who will be aiming for a few early wickets.

He starts with a wide delivery as Kane Williamson offers no shot and taps the next on the off-side.

Two balls later, Williamson is beaten outside the off-stump as the right-hander looks defend but the ball moves away enough to go past the edge.

Bumrah oversteps to give New Zealand their first runs of the day before Williamson gets an edge off the last ball but it goes along the ground to the slips.

Ishant Sharma from the other end. He starts with a poor delivery, full and down the leg side as Ross Taylor misses the glance and does the same next ball.

Another full on the leg stump as Taylor is this time struck on the pads as he misses the flick.

Some sharp inswing for Ishant as Taylor finally gets bat on ball to defend it on the leg side followed by two more blocks to end the over.

It has stopped raining at the Ageas Bowl as the umpires come out to check on the conditions, which have improved considerably.

The covers are coming off one by one as the umpires have a chat with the groundstaff to figure out how long it would take to get the ground ready for play.

The umpires have announced play will start at 4pm IST.

91 overs will be bowled in the day if no further rain interruptions.

"The covers are back on at the Hampshire Bowl and its looking like a delayed start in Southampton," tweeted BlackCaps.

The covers have come back on but it is a light drizzle and it doesn't look like a long delay.

"Positive signs for an on time start at the Hampshire Bowl. Brisk but dry so far for Day 5," BlackCaps tweeted.

It is quite overcast at the Ageas Bowl and the Indian pacers will be looking for a few early wickets, while New Zealand will be aiming to bat out the day and take a sizeable lead, which will help them push for victory on the reserve day.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 5 of the ICC World Test Championship between India and New Zealand in Southampton on Tuesday.

The big positive after the wash-out on Day 4 is that play will start on time on the fifth day.

Only 141.1 overs have been bowled in the match so far, with rain also washing out the entire opening day's play on Friday.

The WTC final has a reserve day on June 23 to make up for the loss of playing time.

New Zealand will resume Day 5 on 101/2, having bowled out India for 217 to take the upper hand.

Captain Kane Williamson, batting on 12, and Ross Taylor, who is yet to score, will be looking to keep the Indians at bay and push the Kiwis towards a significant first innings lead.
