Williamson makes India feel the pain after that drop as he whips Shami through square leg for a four to complete his fifty.

Ishant is going off in the middle of his seventh over with an injury to his finger.

Bumrah to finish off the over. Taylor steers the third ball of the over past gully for two runs.

New Zealand are the first-ever World Champions in Test cricket. They outclasss India by eight wickets in the final to win their first World title.

Williamson led from the front with a solid innings of 52, while Taylor hit a fluent 47 to steer their home in testing circumstances on the reserve day.

Just a slip for Jadeja as Taylor looks to play with the bat in front of the pads. Jadeja's arm delivery comes in sharply and gets batsmen leg before and Taylor is quite wary of it.

Jadeja's arm ball goes down the leg side as Taylor glances it to fine leg for a single.

In the next over, Bumrah bowls it too straight as Taylor clips it through square leg for a couple of runs.

Bumrah puts in some extra effort as the ball rises more than expected and Taylor, coming forward to defend, gets hit on the side of the helmet.

The next ball is wide as Taylor offers no stroke and is hit high on the pads next ball.

Jadeja gets the ball to turn a long way off the footmarks as Williamson is beaten trying to drive and even wicketkeeper Pant fails to collect it.

Jadeja strays down the leg side as Williamson sweeps it fine on the leg side to raise the 50-run stand for the third wicket as New Zealand inch closer towards the target.

Bumrah gets another one to jump off length as Taylor is hit high on the bat. A few balls later, he glances Bumrah's wayward delivery fine on the leg side for a four to bring up New Zealand's 100.

22:05   Taylor, Williamson keep India at bay

Another change as Bumrah comes back into the attack. Taylor leaves the first two balls before he drives the third ball into the covers.

Bumrah gets the ball to move away as Taylor (26) goes for the drive but gets edge which Pujara puts down at first slip. That could prove quite costly for the Indians as that wicket would have brought them back in the contest.

Taylor picks a single off the next ball and Williamson blocks out the last ball.

In the next over, Jadeja has a huge appeal for leg before turned down against Taylor. The appeal was quite loud but India still decide against the view.

Jadeja mixing his length and speed quite well as Taylor sensibly plays out a maiden over.

Meanwhile, Williamson plays a beautiful drive through the covers off a Bumrah pitched up delivery. No one moved in the field as the ball went in the gap for a delightful four to bring the target down to 50.

Bumrah gets the ball to hold its line as Williamson plays inside the line and is beaten on the outside edge.

New Zealand need exactly 50 from 20 overs left in the day.

Rishabh Pant is feeling unwell as he goes off the field and is replaced behind the stumps by Wriddhiman Saha.

Spin from both ends now as Ashwin comes back from the other end. Taylor playing on the front foot getting his pads outside the line as he defends.

He taps the fourth ball to square leg for a single. Ashwin drops short as Williamson punches it to sweeper cover for another run.

Taylor does well to push the ball on the off-side and steal a quick single to keep the scoreboard ticking along.

Jadeja drops it short as Taylor cuts it past point but Pujara puts in the slide near the boundary to keep it down to three runs.

Another half-tracker from Jadeja as Williamson cuts it with some authority past point for a four.

Jadeja slows down the last ball as he gets some sharp turn to go past the edge.

New Zealand are 84/2 in 30 overs, with Williamson on 18 and Taylor on 26.

They need another 55 runs for victory from 23 overs.

Williamson fails to make most of the short and wide delivery from Shami, cutting it to the fielder at point to miss out on some runs.

He goes wide of the crease and gets the ball to nip in, but Williamson is waiting for it as he blocks it out.

Williamson punches the fifth ball into the gap through the covers as Shami drops short again for a boundary as the runs begin to flow for the Kiwis.

Ashwin continues with the ball. Taylor defends the first few balls before he drives the fourth ball down to long-on for one with the man pushed back for the lofted shot.

Williamson watchful as ever as he blocks out the last two balls.

Shami gets a break as Ishant comes back into the attack. The second ball is a half-tracker as Taylor slaps it through the covers for his fourth boundary to take his score to 18.

Another short ball from Ishant as Taylor gets on top of it and cuts it to deep point for one.

Double change for India as left-arm spinner replaces Ashwin. Taylor clips the first ball on the leg side and steals a quick single.

The next ball is on the pads as Williamson eases it to square leg for one and Jadeja oversteps to concede another extra run.

He tries to clip the off-spinner through midwicket but can't get it past the fielder inside the circle.

20 dot balls in a row as New Zealand struggle to get going. They are 46/2 in 22 overs, needing another 93 runs for victory.

Shami continues after the drinks break. The first ball comes in as Williamson misses the glance but picks up a leg bye.

Taylor cuts the next ball on the bounce to Jadeja, who throws the ball high in the air as if he had taken the catch just to get the crowd going.

Shami goes short and wide and this time Taylor cuts it behind point for a four to take New Zealand past 50.

Shami goes full but it is down the leg side as Taylor inside edges the flick for a single.

Taylor calms some nerves in the Kiwi dressing room as he whips Ashwin over midwicket for a four.

Ashwin nearly gets revenge next ball. He bowls it a lot slower and gets the ball to turn sharply as it goes through the gap between bat and pad but goes over the stumps, with wicketkeeper Pant also struggling to take it.

Ashwin overpitches as Taylor drives it easily through the covers for the second four of the over.

Ashwin switches to round the wicket as Taylor opens his stance and blocks out the last two balls.

Two boundaries in the over boosts New Zealand's scoring rate, with another 79 needed from 29 overs for victory.

Shami gets the ball to nip back in again with extra bounce as Williamson takes another blow on the thigh.

He clips Shami off his pads through square leg for a couple of runs. He bowls a couple wide which Williamson ignores before the incoming delivery from wide of the crease is blocked out.

Ashwin giving it a lot of flight as Taylor defends off the front foot. He bowls the third ball a bit quicker but Taylor adjusts well by blocking it out.

Ashwin building some pressure as he keeps things tight, with figures of 2/5 from six overs, including four maidens.

Shami has settled on a good line. He is tempting Williamson with outswingers, who is happy to leave, before he flicks the inswinger but can't get it in the gap.

India building the pressure by giving away just four runs in the last five overs.

The required rate inching towards the three-per over mark with 93 needed from 32 overs.

Shami comes back into the attack. He gets the ball to move away late and also bounce as Williamson is hit high on the pads trying to defend it.

Williamson clips the next ball through square leg for a couple of runs before he defends the next.

Slightly short from Shami as Williamson punches it into the covers but can't find the gap and he does the same next ball. He has been timing the ball well right from the start and looks keen to get on with things unlike in first innings when he batted with caution.

Ashwin gets his second wicket as he traps Conway leg before wicket. The ball skids straight on as Conway comes forward to defend but is struck right in front.

Conway walks back for 19 as New Zealand lose their second wicket.

Ross Taylor plays Ashwin with the spin on the leg side as the Kiwis look under some pressure for the first time on Day 6.
20:51   Ashwin strikes; NZ lose 1st wicket

Bumrah switches to round the wicket. The first ball is down the leg side as the ball goes off Conway's pads and wicketkeeper Pant takes a diving catch to his right. He appeals for the catch down the leg side but no one else is interested.

He taps the next ball to point and takes a quick single as Williamson makes his ground despite the direct hit from Jadeja.

Williamson taps Bumrah on the off-side for a single to get off the mark. Conway continues his good form as he pulls the short ball from the pacer behind square for a four.

Bumrah gets the next ball to rise sharply as Conway is hit on the gloves as he comes forward to defend.

In the next over, Ashwin makes the big breakthrough in the form of Williamson, who is given out leg before wicket trying to sweep.

He is ruled out LBW by the on-field umpire as he decides to take the review.

And Williamson escapes narrowly as the ball tracker shows the ball is missing the leg stump!

The last ball is short as Williamson slaps it through the covers for three runs.

Conway goes for the flick as Bumrah bowls full on the pads but he misses it and picks up a leg bye.

Bumrah bowls a beauty, getting the ball to move away as Latham looks to defend but the ball goes past the edge.

Bumrah, who struggled in the first innings, comes up with another peach to beat Latham again and repeats it, to make three play and misses in a row.

Ashwin from round the wicket. Conway defends the first ball and does the same next ball as Ashwin gives it some air.

A lot of chirping from Pant behind the stumps but nothing affecting Conway, who watchfully plays out the over.

In the next over, Latham drives Bumrah through the covers for three runs. Bumrah slips the next down the leg side as it hits Conway's thigh pads and goes fine for four leg byes.

Bumrah gets his line right as he slants it across Conway, who leaves it on length as the ball bounces over the stumps.

The next ball is a touch fuller but too wide to make Conway play but he drives the fifth ball off the frontfoot perfectly into the gap through the covers for a four.

Ashwin makes the breakthrough. Latham comes down the track but is beaten in the flight and the sharp turn as wicketkeeper Pant completes an easy stumping.

Some hope for the Indians as New Zealand opener Latham walks back for nine.

They need another 106 runs from 39 overs.

Bumrah to start off with the ball in the final session of the match. Conway defends the first ball pitched up but has nothing to do with the next two as Bumrah slants it wide of the stumps.

Conway tries to pull the short ball but is beaten and hit on the thigh pads before he blocks the next.

Spin for the first time as Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack, to bowl the 10th over.

Latham hits the first ball into the covers for a single before Conway comes forward but gets an inside edge before he picks one off the next.

Latham chips down the track as he gets the leading edge which goes over Ashwin.

Bumrah strays down the pads as Conway glances it fine for a four. He gets the last ball to bounce more than expected as the left-hander hangs his bat out and is beaten.

Shami gets the ball to move away as Latham pokes and is beaten but manages to leave the next.

Latham is beaten again as he tries to drive Shami who keeps testing the batsmen with his movement and pace.

New Zealand go into the tea break on 19 for no loss, needing another 120 runs for victory in 45 overs in the final session of the match.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 170 in their second innings, setting New Zealand 139 to win the inaugural World Test Championship title.

Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer for India with a cavalier 41, while Rohit Sharma made 30.

The fourth ball comes in and Conway pushes it towards mid-on and plays out the last two balls with caution.

With the tea interval round the corner, India will be looking for a wicket or two before the break.

Latham plays a rash shot as he tries to pull Shami but is beaten by the extra bounce. But he does well to get right behind the next ball pitched up.

The last ball slips down the leg side as Latham misses the glance but it goes fine off the pads for four leg byes.

Ishant gets the ball to swing in as Conway is hit on the pads trying to flick for a leg bye.

Two balls later, Latham falls over trying to flick and is struck on the pads but the ball is going down. He then guides a wide delivery behind point for a couple to get off the mark and and gets another couple as he glances the fifth ball fine on the leg side.

In the next over, Conway tries to pull Shami but can't get it away due to the extra bounce. He is then beaten outside the off-stump as he pokes away from his body.

Shami overpitches as Conway plays a beautiful straight drive back past the bowler for a four.

New Zealand off to a good start as they reach 14 for no loss in six overs, needing another 125 runs for victory.

Tom Latham walks out to open the batting with the in-form Devon Conway.

The first ball is pitched right up as Latham inside edges it back on to his pads but the next is blocked off the middle.

He leaves the third ball before driving the fourth into the covers followed by blocks off the last two balls.

Mohammed Shami with the new ball ahead of Jasprit Bumrah. He starts with a short ball which Conway tries to pull but can't get it off the middle.

Conway clips the next ball for a single to get New Zealand off the mark. Latham leaves the next three balls before he defends the last ball into the covers.

Southee continues as the first ball is down the leg side to Shami, who attempts the glance but misses. He steers the third ball past the gully fielder for a four and then pulls the next ball behind square for another boundary.

In the next over, Ishant clips Boult to fine leg for a single and Shami taps the third ball to point for one.

A very wide delivery from Boult as Ishant goes chasing but fails to connect before he defends the last two balls.

Shami throws his bat at a full delivery from Southee as the thick outside edge flies over the slips for a four.

Shami has another big swing but this time the thick outside edge carries to Tom Latham at fly slip who is stationed behind the regular slip region.

Southee ends India's innings with the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah, who is caught in the slips for a duck.

India are bowled out for 170 in 73 overs in their second innings.

New Zealand need 139 in 53 overs to win the inaugural World Test Championship title.

The wicket of Pant proved to be decisive as the lower order collapsed, with the last four wickets falling for 14 runs in the space of 23 deliveries.

Southee finished with 4/48, while Boult claimed 3/39 and Jamieson bagged 2/30.
18:54   Pant and Ashwin perish; India in trouble

Southee comes back in place of Wagner, who bowled a good spell and was rewarded with the wicket of Jadeja.

Pant taps the first ball on the leg side before he offers no shot to the next.

Southee goes wide as Pant is happy to leave it alone before he keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

Trent Boult comes into the attack from the other end. He strikes with the key wicket of Pant, who comes down and has a big swing, but miscues it and is caught on the off-side.

Pant walks back after scoring 41 with India in trouble on 156/7 with an overall lead of 124 runs.

Two balls later, Boult dents India further with the wicket of Ashwin, who plays away from his body and is caught in the slips for seven.

Nearly another wicket as Ishant Sharma fends the short ball directed at his body which loops on the off-side but there is no fielder to take the catch.

Ashwin is beaten by a full delivery which swings away as the right-hander goes for the drive and is beaten on the outside edge.

Wagner continues to bowl short to Pant, who pulls it to fine for one. Ashwin also showing intent as he pulls Wagner but can't get it past square leg.

The next ball is pulled again but he hits it on the bounce to the same fielder.

New Zealand have the fielders in place for this kind of shot but Ashwin is not holding back.

The fourth ball doesn't rise much as Ashwin pulls it to deep square leg for two runs to get off the mark.

Ashwin nearly falls in the trap as he pulls Wagner and manages to clear Williamson who leaps high but can't get it to the catch.

The last ball is a yorker as Pant digs it back to the bowler.

In the next over, Ashwin looks to hit Jamieson through the off-side without any footwork but is beaten as the ball goes past the outside edge.

The pacer gets the ball to swing into Ashwin, who taps it towards midwicket.

Ashwin playing some loose shots. This time he goes after a wide delivery and is beaten again.

Wagner keeps toiling with the ball. Pant pulls the short ball to fine leg for a single before Ashwin guides a wide delivery past gully for three runs.

Another short ball and this time Pant gets on top of the pull as he hits it along the ground for a single and Ashwin also plays a similar shot for one.

Pant is beaten going for another pull but he gets the last ball to deep midwicket for a single.

Jamieson mixing his length quite well. After a few full deliveries which Pant defends watchfully, he tries the short ball which the left-hander pulls to deep square leg for one to take his score to 40.

India are 155/6 in 68 overs, for an overall lead of 123 runs with 60 overs left in the match.

Pant trying everything now. He reverse sweeps Wagner to thirdman for a single before Jadeja goes right back and blocks the short ball.

Wagner slips the short ball down the leg side as Jadeja is able to leave it alone before the bouncer hits him on the body and falls on the leg side.

The last ball, again a bouncer, goes very wide and Jadeja has an easy leave.

Pant is beaten as he tries to drive Jamieson through the covers before he is hit on the body trying to pull, as the ball comes off slower than expected.

Pant gets another lifeline. Conway misses a run out opportunity as he kicks the ball towards the stumps with Pant struggling to make his crease trying for a quick single. Conway on the off-side had enough time to pick the ball up and aim at the stumps instead of trying to kick it.

Jadeja drives the last ball through the covers as Jamieson drifts wide for three runs.

In the next over, Jadeja goes back and flicks Wagner over the fielder at forward short leg, who takes evasive action.

After a barrage of short balls, Wagner surprise Jadeja with a full delivery  which he edges and is caught behind for 16. Jadeja, who was camped on the backfoot because of the short balls, played from the crease and got the edge to be caught by Watling.

India lose their sixth wicket, with an overall lead of 110 runs.

18:04   Pant, Jadeja take India's lead past 100

Jamieson gets the ball to rise sharply as Pant is able to leave it but he defends the others which are pitched full.

Pant gently drives the overpitched delivery past the fielder in the covers for a couple of runs and blocks out the last ball.

Wagner continues the bouncer strategy as Jadeja still goes for the pull for a single to fine leg.

Pant also won't hold back. He shuffles across and tries to scoop Wagner fine but misses and wicketkeeper BJ Watling, who has dislocated a finger on his right hand, is unable to collect cleanly to concede a bye.

Jadeja gets on top of the short ball as he defends it and does the same next ball.

A good bouncer directed at the body as Jadeja takes it on the body, with the ball hitting the bat handle and going through the vacant slip region for a single.

Jamieson also keeps it on the shorter side, slanting the ball across left-hander Jadeja, who is happy to leave the wide deliveries.

Slightly fuller from Jamieson and closer to the stumps as Jadeja drops his hands and leaves the ball on length.

The next ball comes in sharply as Jadeja is caught in two minds, initially looking to leave before he tries to block but the ball goes under the bat and narrowly misses the stumps.

Pant offers no shot to the first ball before he comes down and has a big swing but misses.

Pant picks a single off the fourth ball on the off-side and Jadeja offers no shot to the last two balls.

Wagner from round the wicket. He starts with a leg side delivery which Pant leaves easily but he tries to pull the next ball which he misses.

Pant then flicks the third ball off his hips for a single and Jadeja is happy to let the last bouncers sail through to the keeper.

India are 132/5 in 57 overs, for an overall lead of 100 runs.

Pant and Jadeja have brought some life back to the proceedings with their positive approach.

Even though they have put only 20 runs so far, they have given New Zealand something to think, who have pushed a few fielders in the deep to stem the flow of runs.

Wagner continues as Pant clips the first ball to midwicket for a single.

Wagner switches to round the wicket and tries the short ball which goes down the leg side.

Jadeja content to leave the bouncers down the leg side with lunch round the corner.

A short ball finally on target as Jadeja blocks it off the backfoot but well short of the short leg fielder.

He take the last ball on the body as India go into the lunch break on Day 6 on 130/5 in 55 overs, for an overall lead of 98 runs.

Pant stroked his way to a brisk 28, while Jadeja is on 12.

India lost three wickets in the session in 25 overs for the addition of 66 runs.

Jamieson was once again the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for the Kiwis as he got the big wicket of Kohli, who was caught behind for 13. He also dismissed the well-set Pujara for 15, while Boult got Rahane caught down the leg side for the same score.

The tall pacer bowled a splendid spell in the morning session, taking 2/21.

India will look to bat out the next session and play out for a draw but with Pant out in the middle, anything is possible.

Pant taking a few risks despite the circumstances. He comes down and has a wild swing against Wagner looking to smash it over the leg side but misses. That was not far from the edge or the stumps.

This is turning out to be a fascinating contest between two aggressive players in Pant and Wagner, with both looking to go full throttle.

Pant looking for a few big hits, while Wagner is creating some problems with his mix of quick bouncers and the yorkers.

Ravindra Jadeja is hit on the pads as he plays all over a full delivery but the ball is going down before he steers the last ball past point for two runs to get off the mark.

In the next over, Pant guides Boult to thirdman for a single and Jadeja shows his intent as he flicks the pacer through midwicket for a four.

Wagner keeps bowling full as Pant misses the flick and is struck on the pads but whips the next to fine leg for a single.

Jadeja plays a nice flick off the overpitched delivery past midwicket for a four. He is sent back next ball looking for a quick single to mid-on.

He attempts another non-existent run off the next ball as Conway gets the direct hit from the covers but he makes his ground, and gets a run off the overthrow.

Rahane goes fishing again as he flirts with the wide delivery from Boult and is beaten. Both these batsmen looking to be positive, trying to play as many deliveries as possible.

New Zealand will be happy with this approach as it gives them a chance of taking another wicket or two before the lunch break.

Rahane pulls the short ball down the leg side for a couple of fine leg before he slashes a wide delivery through the off-side for a four.

Boult gets revenge next ball as Rahane is caught down the leg side trying to glance a short ball fine but gets the edge and is caught by the wicketkeeper for 15.

Left-arm pacer Neil Wagner comes into the attack. Pant reaches out to a wide delivery hitting it through the covers where the fielder half stops it to concede just one.

Rahane gets an inside edge off the next for another single.

Pant comes down and hammers Wagner straight down the ground past mid-off for a four. The left-hander gets a thick inside edge on to the pads off the last ball.

Left-arm pacers from both ends as Trent Boult comes into the attack. Rahane plays a loose shot as he looks to slash the wide delivery over point but is beaten by the extra bounce.

He pulls the next ball to deep square leg for a single and Pant keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Wagner keeps it full to Pant, who inside edges it on to his pads and then blocks out the next.

Pant showing good defence as he keeps out Wagner's full deliveries, waiting for the right opportunity to attack.

Rahane playing a few loose shots. This time he flashes at the wide delivery from Boult and is beaten. He clips the next ball through square leg where Wagner makes a good sliding stop to keep it down to two runs.

In the next over, Pant takes the chance as he comes down and looks to smash Wagner but gets a thick outside edge which flies past the slips for a four to take India past the 100-run mark.

Pant attempts a wild slog off the next ball and is beaten all ends up. He goes back to defend from the crease but plays and misses as Wagner gets the ball to move away late.

Rahane punches Jamieson through the covers for a couple to get off the mark. The next ball is full and comes in as Rahane gets to the pitch and defends it right under his eyes.

He then steers a wide delivery off the outside half of the bat as it stays low and goes through the slips for a couple.

Rahane misses the flick off a full delivery as the leg before shout is turned down and he manages to take a leg bye.

Jamieson gets Pant to edge the last ball but Southee puts down a straightforward chance at second slip. Jamieson had done well to drag Pant to play away from his body but Southee was unable to take the chance.

In the next over, Rahane pulls Southee but can't get it off the middle for a single.

Pant chips down the track to Southee but is beaten by the inswinger which goes past the edge. He clips the fifth ball to deep square leg for a couple of runs.

Rahane will need to guide the young Pant as the duo will look to bat out the session.

Jamieson continues to bowl in a good channel, getting the ball to come in as Rahane defends watchfully.

He tries a short ball outside the off-stump which doesn't rise much as Rahane has an easy leave before he blocks out the last few balls.

Southee gets Pant to play away from his body as the left-hander gets a thick outside edge towards gully.

The next ball comes in sharply as Pant does well to withdraw his bat from the line and leaves another incoming delivery.

Pant then uses his wrists to slap a full delivery from Southee straight down the ground past mid-on for a four.

Jamieson continues after the drinks break as New Zealand hunt for wickets and push for victory.

He starts with the outswinger which Rahane watches till late before leaving and does the same next ball.

Rahane not trying anything fancy as he blocks out the last few balls to end the over from Jamieson.

Jamieson rocks India again with the key wicket of Pujara. The India No 3 pushes tentative at the outswinger only to get the edge and is caught by Ross Taylor at first slip.

Jamieson's double blow has left India reeling on 72/4, effectively making it for 40/4 for India.

It will be interesting to see how Rishabh Pant approaches this innings. He defends the first ball before tapping the next to point for a quick single to get off the mark.

In the next over, Pant throws his bat at a wide delivery from Southee, hitting it uppishly past gully for a four. Another wide delivery but this time Pant leaves it and then blocks the fourth ball to point.

He offers no shot to the fifth ball before defending the last ball back to the bowler.

Southee keeping it wide to Kohli, who is happy to leave it at the moment. The first three balls are left alone before Kohli leans forward to defend and steers a wide full delivery past gully for a couple.

The last two balls are again wide outswingers as Kohli is able to avoid it easily.

Jamieson looking to swing the full delivery into Pujara and trap him leg before wicket. Pujara defends the first two balls before he clips the third to fine leg for a single.

Kohli whips the next off his hips to midwicket but is beaten next ball as he pokes away from his body. That was so close to the edge.

The last ball is again a beauty as Kohli plays and misses again trying to defend, with the ball narrowly missing the edge!

A couple of wide outswingers from Southee which Pujara leaves before he blocks out the incoming delivery.

New Zealand have a fielder at silly mid-on next to the pitch to stop Pujara from blocking the incoming delivery uppishly on the leg side.

Jamieson has a huge appeal for leg before turned down against Kohli, as the India captain was struck high on the pads.

A couple of full deliveries on the stumps which Kohli defends before he plays at a wide one and gets the edge. That is a perfect setup from the young Kiwi paceman as he deals India a big hope in their quest to save the match.

Jamieson gets Kohli out for the second time in the game as the India captain pokes away from his body and is caught behind for 13.

India are 71/3 in 36 overs, for an overall lead of 39 runs.

Tim Southee starts with the ball for New Zealand on the reserve day. He starts with a full delivery which captain Virat Kohli defends and does the same next ball.

Southee overpitches on the stumps as Kohli flicks it through midwicket for three runs.

The pacer tries a bouncer at Pujara who ducks under it before he keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

Kyle Jamieson from the other end. Pujara flicks the first ball towards midwicket and attempts a quick single but decides against it as the fielder makes a diving stop at mid-on. Pujara starts off watchfully as he defends the rest of over.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar in his pitch report believes that the pitch will be good for batting.

He thinks the match will end in a draw unless India collapse, while adding that he India doesn't have enough time set New Zealand a target and then bowl out the Kiwis.

"With the sun beating down, it will ease out. The first hour will be crucial, the ball will move around a bit and then it will become a good wicket for the batsmen.

It looks like a draw, unless India lose a few quick wickets before lunch which will help New Zealand push for victory.

I can't see India pressing for runs in such a manner where they can set New Zealand a target."

India face a battle of survival on the sixth and final day after New Zealand take a slender lead on Day 5 and then dismissed both the openers.

India are 32 runs ahead with eight wickets in hand at the start of the reserve day on Wednesday, which has been activated to make up for lost time in the weather-hit match.

Captain Virat Kohli, batting on eight, and Cheteshwar Pujara, on 12, will hope to avoid any dramatic collapse which could gift New Zealand a shot at the title.

New Zealand claimed a handy first-innings lead of 32 and restricted India to 64-2 to maintain their slight advantage after an absorbing fifth day's play in the final.

Mohammed Shami inspired India's lion-hearted effort with the ball on day five to deny New Zealand a bigger lead in the low-scoring match.

New Zealand were all out for 249 for a 32-run first innings lead at the Ageas Bowl.

Kane Williamson compiled a painstaking 49, while Tim Southee (30) and Kyle Jamieson (21) provided cameos to push New Zealand past India's first-innings total of 217.

Shami (4-76) led India's fightback after skipper Virat Kohli made three inspired bowling changes in the morning session.

The one-off match lost two full days to rain on England's south coast, diminishing hopes of a result in the inaugural world Test championship final.
