Ind 258-4 (84 ovs) vs NZ | Scorecard

Well, that's that as the umpire calls stumps on Day 1.

The light could have been a factor as close of play called with India making 258 for 4 on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Kanpur on Thursday.

After winning the toss, India openers Shubman Gill (52) and Mayank Agarwal were tested with some good swin bowling from Tim Southee and then Kyle Jamieson.

Jamieson's prodding finally paid off when he had Agarwal out cheaply befor Pujara and Gill put on a good partnership and steadied the innings before Jamieson and Southee struck after lunch to put India on the back foot.

But Shreyas Iyer (75) and Jadeja (50) put on a 113-run partnership and clobbered the spinners, Ajaz Patel in particular to take back control and end Day 1 in a commanding position.

Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 50.

The sun is setting in Kanpur and the umpires take out the light metre. Williamson brings on offie Somerville who first starts with a dot and then Shreyas plays across the line and clobbers the ball over mid-wicket for a six!

Shreyas then plays out four dots as 6 come off it.

Southee continues and comes around the wicket to Jaedeja and after two dots, Jadeja plays the ball down to mid off and scampers for a risky single to bring up his 17th Test fifty.

Shreyas is then beaten by the slower ball before he gets a single off a bye.

Dot to end the over as just the 2 come off it.

Jamieson back in the attack and he comes around the wicket to Jadeja and he starts with a peach, making the batsmen swing and miss.

He then strays down leg and Jadeja just helps it down to the leg side to fine leg for a four, that brings up the 100-run partnership.

Short and wide and Jadeja creams it past covers for a four. Consecutive boundaries for Jadeja.

A dot later, Jamieson bowls another one in that corridor and Jadeja lets it go to the keeper.

Jadeja then plays the ball to sweeper cover for a single as 9 come off the over.

The new ball is taken now and Southee is back in the attack and he is getting some swing and Shreyas is beaten outside the off stump off the second ball.

Shreyas sees off the over and that is a maiden.
