21:56   Jaiswal, Parag rally RR after early wkts

Royals 50-2 (5 ovs) vs SRH 201-3 | Scorecard

Jaiswal, on 7 from as many balls, gets a lifeline. He hits the full delivery from Jansen straight to Cummins at mid-off, who puts down the easy chance.

The left-hander pulls the next over midwicket for two runs before Jansen oversteps by a long way to concede a no-ball.

He will have to rebowl the free hit delivery as he bowls a wide down the leg side, while overstepping again for another no-ball.

But he redeems himself as he bowls a good yorker and Parag can only manage a single from the free hit delivery.

Another yorker follows to Jaiswal, who can only defend it on the off-side.

He then makes most of a short ball from Jansen, pulling it powerfully over midwicket for a four.

The last ball is a wide yorker and this time Jaiswal finds the gap past short thirdman for another boundary.

Captain Pat Cummins brings himself into the attack in place of Bhuvneshwar, who took 2/16 in two overs in his first spell.

Jaiswal, who was put down by Cummins in the previous over, makes the Aussie pay for that lapse.

He makes room to smash Cummins through the covers for a boundary and plays the inside out lofted shot for another four through the same region.

Cummins bowls a quick bouncer clocked at 150kph but it is down the leg side as Jaiswal pulls it high over fine leg for a six to bring up Royals' 50 in the fifth over, with 34 coming from the last three overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal gets off the mark with a single from the first ball. But Buttler perishes off the next, caught by Marco Jansen in the slips as he plays away from the body at the wide outswinger to be dismissed for a first-ball duck.

The veteran pacer produces a beauty to clean up Royals captain Sanju Samson. He gets the ball to swing in a long way as Samson is bowled through the gate for a three-ball duck.

The last ball again swings in a long way and Riyan Parag does well to get his bat down in time to block it.

He takes two runs through the off-side off the fourth ball to bring up the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket from 25 balls.

The duo have been instrumental in helping SRH seize the momentum in the death over as they look on course for a total around 200.

Klaasen can't get a run off the fifth ball but he does extremely well to walk across the stumps and scoop the low full toss over short fine leg for a four.
image
21:03   Nitish's attack boosts SRH

SRH 174-3 (18 ovs) vs Royals | Scorecard

Avesh to bowl the 18th over. A single each to Nitish and Klaasen before the former is beaten by a yorker bowled wide of the stumps. Nitish reviews for the wide not given but he has moved outside the off-stump and hence the review is turned down.

Nitish walks across and then hammers a full toss wide of long-off for a six. He edges the last ball which goes fine but straight to short thirdman to get 12 from the 18th over.

He hits the third ball to long-on for one and Nitish does the same next ball.

Klaasen gets two runs through the covers off the last ball. Chahal goes for 16 in his final over to finish with expensive figures of 62 runs from four overs.

SRH 131-3 (15 ovs) vs Royals | Scorecard

Royals' best bowler of the innings so far Sandeep is back into the attack. Head pulls the first ball but only for a single to long-on followed by a wide for a high bouncer.

Nitish continues to attack as he hammers Sandeep over the off-side for a six and then pulls the next for one.

Nitish struggled at the start, scoring five from 10 balls before a six off Ashwin in the 10th over saw him turn things around, hitting 38 from the next 17 balls.

Two more singles as Sandeep goes for 10 runs in his third over.

Avesh back into the attack. He starts with two wides in a row to Head before he pulls the short ball over fine leg for a six.

Samson's brilliance with the gloves nearly gets Royals the big wicket of Head. The left-hander misses out on a full toss from Avesh as the ball goes through to Samson, who shows great alertness to break the stumps with a direct hit.

Head's bat doesn't seem to be grounded but strangely the decision goes in his favour and Royals' head coach Kumar Sangakkara is fuming in the dugout.

But justice is served as Head falls off the very next ball. He shuffles across a long way and tries the scoop but ends up deflecting the ball straight into the stumps.

Head is dismissed after a good innings of 58 from 44 balls, having hit three sixes and four boundaries.

Heinrich Klaasen keeps out the last two balls as Avesh bowls a good over, giving away eight runs while taking the key wicket of Head.

Boult is back into the attack. Nitish picks a single from the first ball to raise the 50-run stand for the third wicket with Head, in the 12th over.

Boult bowls a wide to Head, who then hammers a slower ball through the off-side for a four followed by a single to race to his fifty from 37 balls.

A slower bouncer from Nitish which bounces quite high and the right-hander does well to swat it on the leg side for one.

The last ball is a dot as Boult does well to concede just eight runs.

20:20   Head revives SRH after early wickets

SRH 76-2 (10 ovs) vs Royals | Scorecard

Change of tactics from SRH after the first timeout.

Head finally breaks free with back to back sixes off Chahal in the ninth over. He pounces on a short ball from the leggie, pulling it over midwicket for a six and then lofts the next over long-on for another six.

Chahal bowls a half-volley on the pads and this time the SRH opener flicks it in the gap, beating the man at deep midwicket for a four to get 18 from the over.

Jurel seems to have injured his hamstring while trying to field that last ball and has to go off the field.

Ashwin is back from the other end. Nearly a wicket as Head looks to make room pushing the length ball which turns uppishly but the ball falls just short of the fielder in the covers.

He picks a single off the next before Nitish swings Ashwin wide of long-on for a six and then takes one off the last ball.

27 from the last two overs as SRH recover to 76/2 in 10 overs at the halfway mark.

Head has been instrumental in the recovery, stroking 44 from 33 balls, while Nitish has made 12 from as many balls.
20:13   SRH struggle after early wickets

SRH 48-2 (8 ovs) vs Royals | Scorecard

Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack to bowl the seventh over. The pitch is not easy for the batters at the moment with the bowlers getting some grip and turn.

Some sharp turn for Chahal as Head looking to punch it through the covers ends up getting it off the inside half back to the bowler.

The next ball is again short and wide and this time Head slaps it in the gap in the covers for a boundary and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Sandeep from the other end. Head is beaten by the change of pace as he looks to carve the slower bouncer over point but fails to make contact.

Nitish Reddy is struck on the pads by the incoming delivery but it is clearly going down before he drives the next straight back as Sandeep stops it on the bounce on his follow through.

Nitish gets a thick leading edge as the ball goes uppishly over the leg side but falls short of the fielder charging in from long-on.

Head gets a single from the last ball as Sandeep makes an excellent start, conceding just two runs in his first over and the final over of Powerplay.

A good start for Royals with the ball as SRH struggle 37/2 in six overs in the Powerplay, with Head on 17 from as many balls.
19:57   Avesh strikes; SRH lose early wicket

SRH 35-1 (5 ovs) vs Royals | Scorecard

Abhishek runs the fifth ball down to thirdman for one and Head pulls the last ball for another run.

Ashwin to bowl his second over in the Powerplay. Head jumps down the track and is forced to defend as he steals a quick single.

The bat and pad are close together when Head defended that ball as Royals take the review for leg before wicket. The ball has struck in line but is going to clip the leg stump which means the original decision of the on-field umpire stays but Royals retain their review.

Some sharp turn and bounce for Ashwin as left-hander Abhishek is beaten on the outside edge with the ball bouncing over the off-stump.

He clips the next ball off his pads to midwicket for two runs followed by a single.

SRH are 25 for no loss in four overs.

The first ball is slightly wide as Boult slashes it square for a boundary, getting it past Riyan Parag at point who dives to his left but can't get his hands to the ball.

Head offers no shot to the second ball which goes away before he defends the third ball into the off-side.

Head clips the fourth ball for a single and Abhishek picks one off the last ball for one.

Ravichandran Ashwin from the other end. Abhishek comes down the track and lofts the second ball straight down the ground for a six and picks one off the next ball before Head takes a single from the last ball.

Except for that six, Ashwin did well in his opening over as he bowled four dot balls.

19:06   SRH win toss; elect to bat vs Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has won the toss and elected to bat against Rajasthan Royals in the 50th match of IPL 2024 on Thursday.

No surprise that SRH opted to bat considering that they lost their last two games while chasing a target.

"We have won the games in which we have batted first. That is our strength," says Cummins at the toss.

But Royals captain Sanju Samson says they were also considering batting first if they had won the toss looking at the conditions.

19:00   SRH aim to fix chasing woes against Royals

Welcome to the coverage of the IPL 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on Thursday.

An erratic Sunrisers Hyderabad would look to fix their chasing troubles and get their campaign back on track when they host table-toppers Rajasthan Royals.

A lot more is at stake for the Sunrisers than the Royals, who have all but qualified for the play-offs.

In ominous form till few days back, SRH dropped out of the top four on the points table after suffering back-to-back losses against RCB and CSK, as they failed to chase down totals in both games.

With five wins and four losses, SRH sit on the fifth spot with 10 points and need a victory against Royals to boost their play-offs hopes.

The Pat Cummins-led side's top and middle-order batters have failed collectively while chasing, forcing head coach Daniel Vettori to admit that the idea of going all out with the bat in the second innings might not be the right thing to do.

SRH have breached the 250-run mark thrice this season but all while batting first. In contrast, they haven't managed to chase a total in excess of 200 even once.

SRH are too dependent on the explosive starts provided by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. And, while the duo gets going it's great but when they flop, SRH will want to do a better job at re-building their innings. It's also about time Aiden Markram steps up and justifies his spot in the playing XI, having had an underwhelming season thus far.

Runaway leaders Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, will look to continue their near flawless run. The inaugural edition's champions have shown then are perfectly equipped to compete anywhere.

They are perched atop the table with 16 points -- four points ahead of second placed Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Royals boast of a formidable top order, comprising Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and skipper Sanju Samson, with all three of them in good nick.

The West Indian duo of Shimron Hetymer and Rovman Powell and youngsers Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel have also shown they can hit top gear.

18:30   SRH aim to fix chasing woes against Royals
