Jadeja does well to shuffle across and plays the scoop over fine leg for a six and gets one off the next.

Dube slices the slower ball over the point fielder for a single to get 19 runs from the over.

Umesh leaves CSK in complete tatters. Ruturaj Gaikwad pulls the short ball but fails to get the distance as Rashid Khan takes a well-judged catch at deep square leg. He nearly touched the boundary cushion while taking the catch but Rashid does well to maintain his balance and flick the ball in the air while he got his feet back and then held on to the catch.

The TV umpire has a look before he rules it a clean catch.

CSK off to a horror start as they are reeling 10/3 in the third over.

Santner comes back into the attack. Gill continues the flow of boundaries as he drills the first ball through the covers for a four. He takes a single from the third ball to take the score to 148 and register the record for the highest partnership for any wicket for Gujarat Titans. Interestingly, their previous best was the same pair when they put on 147 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023 last year.

Santner drifts down the leg side as Gill sweeps it fine for a four to take Gujarat past the 150-run mark, in the 13th over.

19:13   Rachin back for CSK; Titans include Wade

Gujarat Titans will be looking towards their Afghanistan spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad to do the damage with the ball against the CSK's power-packed batting line-up.

CSK have been hit hard by the absence of their key bowlers to injuries but they still have a lot of match-winners with the ball in Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur and Tushar Deshpande

Check out the playing XIs of the two teams:

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill (captain), Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, David Miller, Matthew Wade (w/k), Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Kartik Tyagi.

Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (w/k), Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh.

18:39   CSK aim to boost play-offs hopes vs GT

Welcome to the coverage of IPL 2024 match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Despite being hit by the absence of key bowlers due to injuries as well as international commitments, CSK will still like to display their on-field ruthlessness while taking on wooden spooners Gujarat Titans.

Caught in a mid-table logjam with 12 points from 11 games, the away match against Gujarat will be very important for Ruturaj Gaikwad's men as they are still not assured of a play-off berth and a defeat could really dent their chances.

With Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana out of the tournament due to injuries and Mustafizur Rahman back on national duty, CSK's bowling attack sans Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande can at best be termed second string.

A lot will depend on how the three CSK spinners -- Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner and Moeen Ali bowl on a two-paced track in Ahmedabad.

The manner in which CSK defended a total of 167 in Dharamsala against Punjab Kings will give their fans hope of upping the ante against Titans, who have already lost seven games in the tournament so far.

A win will take them to third place in the standings, ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad by virtue of better net run-rate. Among the three teams stuck on 12 points, only CSK (+0.700) enjoys a positive net run-rate.

On paper, bottom-placed Titans are still in the mix but with a maximum tally of 14 points, it would be very difficult for the Shubman Gill-led side to get into the top four.

The side is low on confidence having managed just one win from their last five matches and has struggled in all departments of the game.

Their bowling has lost firepower in absence of the injured Mohammed Shami, while the captaincy responsibility has weighed down heavily on the talented opener Gill, who has three single digit scores and a highest of 35 in his last five outings.

Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan and David Miller have also been inconsistent.

The bowling unit needs to improve its performance as the likes of Mohit Sharma and Josh Little have been leaking runs in the Powerplay.
