India 1st inns: 167-5 (60 ovs)

Monty Panesar took three wickets to put England on top as India were reduced to 167 for five in 60 overs at tea on Day 1.

India kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Cheteshwar Pujara denied the visitors as he scored a fluent 77 not out from 185 balls at the tea break. He walked in to bat in the first over of the innings following the early dismissal of Gautam Gambhir (4) in the first over of the match.

Pujara has batted for nearly four hours so far to keep India in the hunt. Mahendra Singh Dhoni battled hard for his 27 from 62 balls, as the duo have added 48 runs in 20 overs so far.

Panesar was the best bowler for England, with figures of three for 64 in 24 overs. He took the wickets of Virender Sehwag (30) and Sachin Tendulkar (8) who were both bowled, while Virat Kohli (19) was caught in the covers.

Yuvraj Singh also perished cheaply when he was bowled for a two-ball duck by Graeme Swann.

India scored 80 runs in 32 overs for the loss of two wickets in the post lunch session.
