The pitch offered a lot of assistance to the spinners and Monty Panesar made full use of it to claim four for 91 in 34 overs. Graeme Swann, though, could not find his rhythm and managed one for 59 in 26 overs.

Ashwin has raced to 48 from 66 balls as India continue to frustrate the visitors.

Broad replaces Anderson from the press box end. He starts with a short ball which Ashwin tries to pull but the top edge flies over the keeper for a four. That helps him complete his half-century from 67 balls with the help of eight boundaries.

The umpires check with the third umpire before giving Pujara not out.

15:29   Pujara batting on 92
As wickets continue to tumble around him, the young Cheteshwar Pujara has stood steady. His application and temperament has been exemplary as he closes in on yet another century.

He is currently batting on 92 from 223 balls with India's score on 203 for six after 71 overs.

India's spinning great Bishen Singh Bedi also seems to be enjoying Pujara's superb batting. "Pujara very special, splendid, stunning talent- needn't live in any shadow-very much master of own creation-thoroughbred through & through!!," he writes on Twitter.

Statistician Mohandas Menon writes on Twitter: "C Pujara now has batted 840 mins (14 hours) & 652 balls in this series."

Cricket commentator and writer Ayaz Menon also pays him rich tributes. "What a player Pujara is turning out to be! Superb technique, no nerves and tireless. Without his contribution India were sunk today..."

Pujara drives Broad through midwicket for a boundary to move into the 80s as his score reaches 83.

R Ashwin is off the mark with a four as he flicks a full toss from Panesar through the leg side. He hits back to back boundaries in the next over from Broad, hitting it through mid-on and covers respectively.

Good tactics from Ashwin to score some quick runs as he races to 15 from 15 balls on a pitch where batting is getting increasingly difficult.

Pujara also look to lift the tempo as he sweeps Swann behind square on the leg side for another boundary.

- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 169-6 (62 ovs)

Panesar is on fire at the moment. He strikes in his first over after the tea break with the wicket of India captain Dhoni.

The left-arm spinner gets one to turn and bounce sharply taking the edge of Dhoni's bat and is brilliantly caught by Swann at gully, who dives forward and gets his finger under the ball in the nick of time.

The decision was referred to the third umpire and Dhoni had to wait before leaving as the third umpire had a few looks at the replays before giving him out.

The Dhoni-Pujara combine put on 50 runs for the sixth wicket to bring some relief but Panesar dented India further with that wicket.

Panesar's figures now read four for 66 in 25 overs, while Pujara is holding forte from the other end with 77 from 191 balls.

Pujara holds the key for India as his score has now reached 72 from 179 balls.

The two have added 39 runs so far and India needs them to continue atleast for a couple of hours more to rescue them from this precarious position.
13:22   Panesar takes 3 to put England on top
 - Scorecard

India 1st inns: 137-5 (47 ovs)

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has his task cut out on a made-to-demand wicket. The pitch is offering a lot of bounce and turn to the spinners on day one itself and the India skipper will need to play a big innings to rescue India, after they were reduced to 119 for five after 40 overs.

In midst of it all, Pujara is showing great composure to stroke a fluent half-century.

Dhoni gets his first boundary as he drives a full delivery from Panesar through the cover region and in the next over punches a short ball from Swann past point.

Pujara on 62 gets a lifeline as the ball goes between James Anderson and Jonathan Trott in the slips. The bowler Panesar was already halfway into his celebration as he started running towards the off-side but was disappointed at that catch being grassed.

A vital let-off for India, who will now hope that Pujara can make most of this opportunity.

- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 119-5 (40 ovs)

India's position in the match seems to be worsening as Yuvraj Singh is dismissed cheaply by Graeme Swann.

England captain Alastair Cook was quick to bring back Swann into the attack when Yuvraj walked out to bat and he delivered.

Yuvraj was dismissed for a two-ball duck as he looked to defended but the ball went past the bat to bowl him. India in big trouble now!
12:52
While Monty Panesar continues to pick wickets for England, India's own Harbhajan Singh will be licking his lips in anticipation of bowling on this wicket, which seems to be giving a lot of encouragement to the spinners.

It will be interesting to watch when the two Sardars come face to face when Harbhajan Singh comes out to bat and faces Panesar.

The two champion spinners played against each other first time in 2006 during the first Test in Nagpur.

England will delighted with their bowlers, especially Monty Panesar, in the first session as they managed to get three Indian wickets after being asked to bowl.

What a comeback by left-arm spinner Panesar getting the wickets of both Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, who were both bowled.

Sehwag made 30 (43 balls) before he tried to play across the line but missed and was bowled. Tendulkar was beaten all ends up by a magnificent delivery from the left-arm spinner that spun right across him to bowl him.

The in-form Pujara though faced no problems as he eased his way to 38 from 86 balls after coming in to bat early following the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir (4) in the first over of the innings, lbw to pacer James Anderson.

Panesar bowled a superb spell of two for 29 in 11 overs to help England make a good start.
11:27
Sachin Tendulkar has now gone nine innings without a half-century. But there have been worst phases in his career before. If you remember, he went 13 innings without a fifty in 2005-06. His second bad run was in the year 2008 when he went 10 innings without a fifty, writes stats guru Mohandas Menon on Twitter.

"Sachin Tendulkar most inngs without a Test 50: 13 from Oct 2005 to Dec 2006; 10 Jan-Oct 2008 and 9* from Jan 2012 to date," Menon writes.
11:25
This was the third time Monty Panesar had dismissed Tendulkar in Test cricket.

Stats guru Rajneesh Gupta brings out the full details of how Tendulkar has fared against Panesar.

"Sachin Tendulkar vs Monty Panesar in Tests: Balls-196, Dots-143,1s-24,2s-8, 3s-4,4s-17. Runs-120, Dismissals-3, Avg-40.00, SR-61.22," Gupta writes on Twitter.

That was virtually unplayable and Tendulkar's poor run in the series continues.
