STUMPS - Day 1

India 1st inns: 266-6 (90 ovs)

India managed to grab the upperhand with some resolute batting in the final session courtesy of Pujara and Ashwin.

Pujara continued his good run with the bat, scoring his second century in a row. At stumps, he was unbeaten on 114 from 279 balls, with the help of 10 fours. He has batted for six hours and is yet to be dismissed in the series in three innings following his double century in the first Test.

Ashwin made the difference in the final session with his fluent knock of 60 from 84 balls, during which he hit nine fours.

The duo put on an unbroken stand of 97 runs from 172 balls to give India a slight edge on a thrilling first day.

The pitch offered a lot of assistance to the spinners and Monty Panesar made full use of it to claim four for 91 in 34 overs. Graeme Swann, though, could not find his rhythm and managed one for 59 in 26 overs.
