England 35-1 (10 ovs) & 400 vs India 631 | Scorecard

Joe Root gets off the mark with a boundary as he steers Umesh through the gaps between the slips and gully after Cook had taken a single from the first ball of the second over.

Bhuvneshwar is hit for a couple of fours, one each by Root and Cook, before he makes way for Ravindra Jadeja, who is called into the attack to bowl the eighth over.

Root goes after him immediately as he steps out to the first ball and drills it through the covers for a four. Jadeja gets right back, getting the next ball to turn and bounce, as Root withdraws at the last moment. He produces another beauty, going past the edge of the bat again. He plays the last ball of the backfoot and is again beaten as Jadeja starts off with a bang.

No thinking twice now for Kohli as he calls Ravichandran Ashwin from the other end, who starts from round the wicket to Cook, who picks a single on the off-side.

Root sweeps the fifth ball for two runs on the leg side and then picks one from the last ball.

In the next over, Cook flicks Jadeja fine on the leg side for a four past the fielder at leg slip.

Root (22) and Cook (12) have steadied the ship somewhat after the early wicket as England reach 35 for one in 10 overs.
