LUNCH - DAY 4

India 578-7 (170 ovs) vs England 400 | Scorecard

It has been a dominating performance by India as they reached 579 for seven in 171 overs to stretch their lead to 179 runs at the lunch break on Day 4.

The hosts smashed 128 runs in 29 overs at nearly five runs per over in the morning session on Day 4 to put themselves firmly in control of the Test match.

Captain Virat Kohli led the way with a sparkling career-best innings of 212, having hit 24 fours in 317 balls, to register his third double century of the year.

No. 9 Jayant was a revelation with the bat as he also closed in on his century, to reach 92 not out at the lunch break.

The duo were involved in an unbroken record ninth-wicket partnership of 215 runs from 319 balls to register the highest-ever ninth wicket stand for India in Tests.

Of course, Yadav's century would be on India's mind in the post-lunch session, but they would be keen to continue batting as long as possible and ensure they wouldn't need to bat again in this match.
