England 116-3 (30 ovs) & 400 vs India 631 | Scorecard

Bairstow looks to cut Jadeja but gets a bottom edge which goes between the wicketkeeper and the slip fielder for a four. In the next over, he looks to reverse Ashwin but gets a glove and Kohli, who is initially going to his right, dives to his left but can't hold on to a sharp chance.

Both Root and Bairstow are looking to attack and disrupt the spinner's rhythm. Root again brings out the sweep and despatches Jadeja through square leg for a four.

He shuffles across and tries to reverse Ashwin but fails to make connection. Root tries the reverse sweep again against the off-spinner, this time he connects, but can't beat the fielder at point.

England have recovered to 116 for three in 30 overs, with Root (66) and Bairstow (22) adding 67 runs for the fourth wicket.

Ashwin, who bowled 11 overs for 40 runs in his first spell, makes way for the young Jayant Yadav.
