STUMPS - DAY 1

India 126-1 (37 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Chase drifts one down the leg side as Rahul shuffles across and sweeps it fine but gets three runs courtesy of the heavy outfield which slows down the ball considerably followed by a single.

It seems both Pujara and Rahul have decided to shut shop with around 10 mins to go for lunch.

Pujara has looked quite solid and he must be keen not to throw his good start, which he has been doing in his last few innings.

Holder bowls a good yorker which Pujara whips through the leg side but the fielder at midwicket comes up with a diving save to restrict it to just one.

Pujara loses his concentration momentarily as he comes down the track but is not to pitch of the ball and gets an inside edge which falls safely on the leg side. He gets a single off the next ball before Rahul flicks it behind square and comes back for two runs.

Part-timer Kraigg Brathwaite comes on to bowl off-spin. It is the last over of the day but Pujara won't let any scoring opportunities go by as he rocks back and punches a short ball through the covers for two runs. The next ball is again short which he cuts and gets a single.

The umpires are happy to let the spinners bowl from both ends and gets as many overs as possible before stumps are drawn.

Brathwaite gets Pujara to edge one but it flies past the slip fielder for two runs before stealing another run.

The light has stayed good so the umpires continue the match well beyond the extra 30 minutes to finish off the whole quota of overs for the opening day.

With two spinners in operation, even the two Indian batsmen are content to bat out in the middle and score a few ones and twos.

At stumps on Day, India were well placed on 126 for one in 37 overs, trailing West Indies by just 70 runs.

It was complete domination by the visitors as they bowled out West Indies for a paltry 196 thanks to Ashwin's five for 52.

Rahul hit a fluent 75 not out from 114 balls, with the help of 10 fours, to maintain India's stranglehold on the opening day.

Except for a few early wickets, India look the favourites to post a huge total and run away with the match as early as the second day.

We will be back with the second day's action on Sunday. Stay tuned!
