Rahul, Pujara build India's total on Day 2
July 31, 2016  21:32

India 148-1 (50 ovs) vs WI 196 | Scorecard

Rahul plays a rare loose shot as he looks to cut a short ball from Gabriel which bounces more than expected and is also closer to the body. Another short ball which moves in late after passing the batsman who does well to sway out of the way as wicketkeeper Dowrich does well to save it and concede just one bye.

Holder bowls a maiden over to Pujara, who is content to let the six balls of the over go through to the keeper. Pujara, who resumed on 18 from 57 balls, is yet to score a run in nearly 45 minutes of the session, having faced 21 deliveries so far in the first session.

An extended spell for Gabriel as he continues to bowl his fifth over of the day. The pacer has bowled quite well in the morning session and created a problem or two with his pace and bounce.

Meanwhile, Holder is content to bowl a steady line and length, sending down another maiden to Pujara.

The first bowling change of the day as off-spinner Roston Chase comes into the attack. It remains to be seen how much turn he will get on the second day!

Rahul makes his intent clear as he sweeps the third ball behind square for a boundary to take his score to 86.

Chase getting some turn as he sensibly adjusts his line to outside the off-stump and Rahul watchfully blocks it.

West Indies batsmen will do well to learn from Pujara, who is showing exemplary patience and despite not scoring a run in the first one hour, has not at all looked desperate. He has played four successive maiden overs from Holder.

Finally, Pujara breaks the shackles as he comes down the track and flicks Chase through square leg for a couple and get his first runs of the day.

After 50 overs, India have reach 148 for one in 50 overs, trailing West Indies by 48 runs.

Rahul, who is batting on 87 from 160 balls, is inching towards his third Test century, while Pujara has shown a lot of patience to score 20 from 92 balls.
