England 181-1 (59 ovs) & 537 vs India 488 | Scorecard

Hameed drives Yadav on the off-side for a single as England's lead touches the 200-run mark. Cook looking to be a bit more positive as he cuts a wide delivery from Yadav through point for a four before they get two singles from the next over by Ashwin.

Local lad Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack in place of Ashwin. The first ball turns big and hits Cook on the pads as the Indian appeal for LBW but in vain.

Two balls later, he goes for the cut but gets a bottom edge which is dropped by wicketkeeper Saha. That was low and Saha hardly had any time to react as Cook went right back to cut it.

He gets the next ball through the vacant thirdman region as Shami runs after it from inside the circle but fails to stop the ball and Kohli is not impressed as England get a boundary with Cook getting into the 80s and going past his partner Hameed for the first time in the innings.

Hameed has a close shave as he runs for a quick single and jumps trying to avoid the ball as Pujara gets the direct hit but luckily the bat was grounded in the crease.

Yadav overpitches and offers some width as Cook plays a handsome drive through the covers for a four as none of the Indian fielders moved. Three more singles as England seem to be trying to make a move at increasing the tempo.

Cook employs the sweep against Jadeja for two runs to fine leg before he picks one and Hameed does the same. Cook again goes for the sweep off the last ball but misses as Jadeja appeals for LBW but it is turned down.

England have scored 22 runs from the last four overs to reach 179 for no loss in 58 overs, to register their best opening partnership in India, while also stretching their lead to 228 runs with a minimum of 69 overs left in the day.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra comes into the attack. Cook again brings out his favourite sweep shot for a single to fine leg before Mishra makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Hameed.

The right-hander, who played an impressive innings of 82, hits one straight back to Mishra, who does well to take the catch on his follow through to end a 180-run opening stand.

But hold on, the umpires are checking for the front foot no-ball with Mishra getting the benefit of the doubt with no concrete evidence to suggest that he had overstepped.

Joe Root gets off the mark with a single before the Indians appeal for a caught down the leg side but to no avail.
