Off-spinner Jeetan Patel strikes in the first over of the post-tea session with the big wicket of Kohli, who is trapped leg before wicket for 211.

Rahane and Kohli had hit a boundary each off Patel before he claimed the wicket of the latter.

The India captain, who 20 fours in his 366-ball knock which stretched for two minutes short of nine hours, looked to hit it across the line on the leg side but missed and was struck right in front of the stumps.

Quite a few New Zealand players walked up to Kohli to congratulate him while the crowd gave him a standing ovation as he returned to the pavilion.

He put on a mammoth stand of 365 runs with Rahane (166) for the fourth wicket as the duo ensured India end up with a huge total.
