A good post-tea session helps Australia finish Day 1 on a high as they reach 256 for nine at stumps.

Starc remains unbeaten on a quickfire 57 from 58 balls, having hit five fours and three sixes, while Hazlewood held on bravely for one run from 31 balls, with the duo involved in an unbroken stand of 51 from 73 balls for the 10th wicket.

Starc's counter-attack helped Australia fight back after they were reduced to 205 for nine at one stage.

Australia scored 103 runs in 31 overs, while losing five wickets, on a pitch which offered a lot of turn and bounce.

On a turning track, it was pacer Umesh Yadav, who stole the show, with a fiery display of fast bowling as he claimed four for 32 in 12 overs.

Jadeja and Ashwin picked up two wickets each, while Jayant got one wicket but struggled to find his rhythm in a disappointing performance with the ball.

India will hope to finish off Australia early in the morning on Day 1 before looking to follow up with a good showing with the bat.
