Welcome to the coverage of the fifth and final day of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Kolkata on Monday.

India staged a superb turnaround on Day 4 courtesy of their openers -- Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul -- who put on a rollicking opening stand of 166 runs.

Dhawan threw away his wicket at 94, but Rahul was unbeaten on 73 when bad light stopped play with the hosts on 171-1.

Cheteshwar Pujara was on two at the other end with India 49 runs ahead with nine wickets in hand, after they were bowled out for 172 in their first innings.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were dismissed for 294 in their first innings after number nine batsman Herath top-scored for the tourists with a defiant 67.

It remains to be seen if India continue their positive approach and push for victory on Day 5, but pacer Bhuvneshwar said it all depends on how things pan out in the first hour of the day.

"We would love to give them batting and get them out but all depends on the first hour of play," said Bhuvneshwar.

"It is a bit tricky. If we give them 250 in around 40-45 overs, they could chase it down so we have to play it safe," he added.
