Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten half-century and in the company of Ben Stokes kept India's bowlers at bay, on Day 4 of the third Test.

India were looking set to wrap up things early as they reduced England top 62 for four at one stage in the morning session before Buttler and Stokes thwarted the Indians.

The duo batted the entire post-lunch session to take England to 173 for four in 62 overs, still needing another 348 runs for victory.

Buttler stroked his way to 67, having hit 13 fours, while Stokes batted patiently to score 42 not out from 111 balls, as the duo were involved in an unbroken stand of 111 for the fifth wicket.

Earlier, Ishant Sharma sent back both the opening batsmen as Jennings was caught behind by wicketkeeper Pant for 13.

Cook also got an edge and was caught by KL Rahul at second slip for 13, who then produced another brilliant catch to send back England captain for the same score off Jasprit Bumrah.

Mohammed Shami left England in further mess as he got Ollie Pope caught at third slip for 16, with captain Virat Kohli taking a stunning diving catch.
