Eng 84-4 (35 ovs); Target to win: 521 | Scorecard

Pandya makes an immediate impact, getting the ball to move a bit. Stokes defends the first three balls before he is beaten by one which is slanted across him.

He then gets an edge but it falls well short of the gully fielder before he offers no shot to the last ball.

Buttler and Stokes are naturally attacking batsmen but both are looking to grind it out in the middle in testing conditions against some superb fast bowling by the Indians.

Buttler watchfully defends Shami's sixth over before Stokes does the same against Pandya in the next over.

After 29 dot balls in a row, England finally manage a run as Buttler gets a thick outside edge off Shami for a boundary past the slips through the vacant thirdman region.

Shami then produces a beauty, the outswinger pitched in the channel outside the off-stump as Buttler plays inside the line and is well beaten.

With around 10 minutes to go for lunch, Ashwin is brought into the attack.

A lot of loud cheering by the close in fielders to lift Ashwin, who has been brave enough to take up bowling duties despite his injury. He was clearly in a lot of discomfort when he bowled on the third day due to some tightness in the hip region.

Stokes watchfully defends the first two balls before he gets an inside edge past the vacant leg slip region for one and Buttler also gets an inside edge off the last ball for another run.

Shami tries a short ball but this time Buttler takes on the bowler, pulling it through square leg for a four. Two balls later, he clips one off his hips, getting it off the inside half of the bat fine on the leg side for another boundary.

A full swinging delivery as Buttler throws his bat, driving it uppishly as Rahane in the covers makes a valiant attempt but it just flies past him for the third four of the over.

Buttler offers no shot to the next ball which comes in sharply but hits the right-hander hit on the pads, to take the LBW out of the question.

Stokes manages to see out the final over of the morning session, bowled by Ashwin.
