Broad makes Rahul defend a delivery just outside the off-stump as he gets an edge but he has played with soft hands and it goes along the ground past the slips for a four.

Two balls later, Broad gets one to swing late as Buttler struggles to collect the ball and ends up giving away four byes.

Rahul gets a leading edge which goes to point for one and Dhawan collects three runs to thirdman to get off the mark.

England reach 19 for no loss in four overs before stumps on the opening day, with Rahul and 11 and Dhawan on three.
