Led by Prithvi Shaw's brilliant century on debut, India dominated the opening day of the first Test against West Indies in Rajkot on Thursday.

Shaw smashed an entertaining 134, hitting 19 fours in his 154-ball knock to power India to 364 for four in 89 overs.

Captain Virat Kohli eased his way to 72 at stumps on Day 1, while Rishabh Pant was not out on 17.

Electing to bat, India lost an early wicket when KL Rahul was trapped leg before wicket by Shannon Gabriel for a duck in the first over of the innings.

Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara then counter-attacked with their brisk partnership of 206 from 254 balls for the second wicket.

Pujara stroked a fluent 86 from 130 balls before he was caught behind off Sherman Lewis.

Ajinkya Rahane wasted a good start as he was caught behind off Roston Chase for 41.
