Welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the fifth and final Test between England and India at the Oval in London on Monday.

England hold the upperhand with an overall lead of 154 runs, with eight wickets still in hand at the start of the penultimate day.

Alastair Cook's unbeaten 46 helped England extend their lead on Day 3 on Sunday.

Cook and Joe Root (29) guided England to 114 for two in 43 overs at stumps to swell their overall lead to 154 runs.

Cook, England's record Test-run scorer, who scored 71 in the first innings of his record-extending 161st Test, walked out in the sunshine to a loud and prolonged standing ovation as he prepared to bring down the curtain on his 12-year Test career, having announced his international retirement.

Mohammed Shami dismissed Keaton Jennings early for 10 while Moeen Ali was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja for 20 before England's two most experienced batsmen steadied the ship.

Earlier, A superb unbeaten 86 by Ravindra Jadeja and a debut half-century by Hanuma Vihari helped India stage a late fightback in their first innings.

Having begun the day on 174-6 in reply to England's first-innings 332, India were eventually all out for 292 having clawed to within 40 of parity.
