Australia beat India by 34 runs in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Australia take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. 

With this win, Australia become the first team to have 1000 wins across all formats.
 
After putting up 288 on the board, Australia pacemen Richardson and Behrendorff made early inroads as the match ebbed and flowed.

Rohit and Dhoni batted to steady India's innings but once Dhoni was gone, India lost wickets at regular intervals and fell short by 34 runs.

Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 26 off his 10 overs.

Stoinis comes on to bowl the final over as Shami is the new man in.

Bhuvi and Shami get a single each before Bhuvi clobbers the ball through covers for a four. 

After a dot, Bhuvi has been dropped by Handscomb. The batsmen take a single.

Shami is caught off the last ball of the over as he skies the ball to hand Maxwell an easy catch. 

India lose 9 wickets.


Siddle comes back into the attack, and his slower ball is hammered past backward point for a four.

Bhuvi and Kuldeep take the singles and twos before Kuldeep tries to go after the bowling only to hand a catch to Khawaja at deep mid-wicket. 

Kuldeep goes for 3 as 9 runs and a wicket come off the over.



Stoinis continues and Bhuvi is taking him on as he gets back-to-back boundaries.

Bhuvi and Kuldeep take a single each before Bhuvi gets a life off the last ball off the over as he is dropped by Khawaja in the deep.




Richardson continues as he bowls his final over. 

The batsmen take 4 singles as Richardson's spell comes to an end.



Kuldeep is the new man in.

The batsmen had crossed and Bhuvi tries to go after the bowling, thankfully for him he has been dropped by Khawaja in the deep and he gets a couple.


A dot to end the over as 9 and a wicket come off it.


Stoinis continues and both batsmen have taken a single each. 

Rohit gets a four over mid-off. He is out next ball as he tries to go after the bowling, this time he hits the ball straight to Maxwell as he is dismissed for 133.
