England beat Pakistan by five wickets in first one-dayer

England downed Pakistan by five wickets in the first of three one-day international cricket matches at the national stadium here Tuesday.

England chased an imposing Pakistan total of 304-9 in a highly professional style, achieving the target with 16 balls to spare.

Andrew Flintoff hit a belligerent 84 while Graham Thorpe and captain Nasser Hussain hit half centuries for the tourists.

Allrounder Abdur Razzak hit a career best 75 not out while Inzamam-ul-Haq made 71 of the home team's total.

The two teams meet in the second match in Lahore on Friday.
