Opposition disrupts council proceedings over tabling Srikrishna reportPandemonium prevailed in the Maharashtra legislative council today, as Opposition members shouted slogans to demand the tabling of the Srikrishna Commission's report, and forced Deputy Chairman N S Pharande to adjourn the House twice. As soon as question hour commenced at 1400 hours, Vyankappa Patki (Janata Dal) read out a notice issued by him to the secretary of the Upper House demanding discussion on the Srikrishna Commission report under rule 93. The demand was opposed by Shiv Sena members Ravindra Mirlekar, Shishir Shinde and Bharatiya Janata Party member and public works minister Nitin Gadkari. This resulted in slogan-shouting from Opposition members who supported the demand for tabling the report. The members then rushed to the well of the House, which prevented the deputy chairman from conducting business, and he adjourned the House for 10 minutes. When the House reassembled at 1406 hours, Opposition members resumed slogan-shouting, and rose to their feet to continue their demand while the Treasury benches continued to oppose tabling the report. The Opposition members entered the well of the House again and also mounted the podium, all the while continuing with slogan-shouting. However, Pharande continued reading the question booklet, amid the commotion, although nothing was audible in the din. Later, when there was no let-up in the commotion, he adjourned the House twice for 15 minutes. UNI
