Former Baroda captain Jacob Martin has agreed to delay his retirement to play in the team's crucial tie against Maharashtra, in Pune, next week.

Martin, who announced his intention to retire from first class cricket after the team's match against Saurashtra, changed his decision following a request from skipper Irfan Pathan and Baroda Cricket Association vice-president Sanjay Patel to be with the team for its crucial match against Maharashtra.

Martin played a vital knock of 36 not out and shared an important fourth-wicket partnership of 84 runs with Pathan to guide Baroda to a seven-wicket victory on Wednesday.

After the match, as per a previously announced programme, the BCA organised a farewell function in honour of Martin and felicitated him.

It was during the function that both Pathan and Patel requested Martin to defer his decision on retirement.

The victory revived Baroda's fortunes and brightened their chances of making it to the quarter-final stage of the tournament if they perform well against Maharashtra.
