Hughes doubtful for first Test against Windies

November 18, 2009 10:00 IST

Australian opener Phillip Hughes' hopes of earning a Test recall have been dented after he failed to complete the one-day game against Tasmania.

Hughes, who is playing for New South Wales in the domestic tournament, injured a finger on his right hand while attempting to take a slips catch during the six wicket one-day loss to Tasmania at North Sydney [ Images ] Oval.

Hughes now has the Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania, which starts on Wednesday, to prove if he is worthy of a recall for Thursday week''s clash against West Indies [ Images ] at the Gabba [ Images ], The Daily Telegraph reports.

The left-hander has been publicly backed for a return to the Test arena in recent weeks by former Test stars Allan Border [ Images ] and Mark Waugh [ Images ].
