# Prasanna Jayawardene and Mahela Jayawardene put on a 216-run unbroken partnership for the sixth wicket -- a Sri Lankan sixth-wicket record in Tests, bettering the 189 (unbroken) between Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva against Zimbabwe at Colombo, SSC in 1997-98.

# The above partnership is also Sri Lanka's best for any wicket against India in India, obliterating the 159 between Wettimuny and Ravi Ratnayeke for the first wicket at Kanpur in 1986-87

# Thilan Samaraweera's 20th fifty (70 off 145 balls) against India is his second in Test cricket - his third this year.

# Samaraweera is the leading run-getter in 2009, aggregating 1153 at an average of 82.35 in only nine Tests, including four hundreds.

# Samaraweera's average of 82.35 is the best amongst the batsmen with 500 runs or more this year.

# Prasanna Jayawardene's unbeaten knock (84) is his highest innings against India and the said innings is now his highest on foreign soil.

# Prasanna's aforesaid innings is now his second highest in Tests - his career-best being 120 not out against Bangladesh at Colombo, SSC in June 2007.

# Mahela is the first Sri Lankan and the fourth to record a double hundred at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, joining Rahul Dravid (222 vs New Zealand in 2003-04), Abraham de Villiers (217 not out for South Africa in 2007-08) and Sachin Tendulkar (217 vs New Zealand in 1999-00)

# Mahela (1025) is now the third batsman to aggregate 1,000 runs this year, joining Samaraweera (1153) and Andrew Strauss (1071).

# Sri Lanka (591/5) have posted the highest total at Motera, bettering India's 583 for seven wickets declared against New Zealand in 1999-2000. The said total is also the highest by Sri Lanka against India in India, surpassing the 420 at Kanpur in 1986-87.

# Mahela Jayawardene has set a Sri Lankan record for the highest run-aggregate against India in Tests, beating Aravinda de Silva's runs' tally of 1252 (ave.41.73) in 19 Tests.

# Marvan Atapattu, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene share a record for most double hundreds (6) for Sri Lanka. Also with five centuries against India, he has equalled Aravinda de Silva's tally, sharing a Sri Lankan record for the most centuries (5) against India.

# Having already established a Sri Lankan record for most centuries, Jayawardene has extended his own record for most hundreds (27) in Tests.

# Jayawardene is the first and only one to register a double century in India.
