'Amin is an excellent man and administrator'

Last updated on: April 26, 2010 16:17 IST

Indian Premier League interim chairman Chirayu Ramanbhai Amin is chairman and managing director of the famous Alembic group of Baroda. The former president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is a seasoned cricket administrator. He is a Board of Control for Cricket in India vice-president for quite some time now. More importantly, he is president of the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) since the death of his predecessor Maharaja Fatesinhrao Gaekwad in 1988.

It was former BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele who was instrumental in getting Amin into cricket administration and installing him as chief of the Baroda Cricket Association.

"Chirayu Amin is an excellent man and administrator. In fact, he is an ideal cricket administrator. The IPL could not have found a better person in the present scenario. I think he deserves to be the president of the IPL. He has been BCA president for well over two decades now and neither the players nor his fellow-administrators have had any problem whatsoever with him. I am sure the IPL will benefit from his undoubted administrative skills," former India wicketkeeper and chairman of selectors Kiran More told rediff.com.

Not much is known about Amin. He is a man of few words and hardly speaks about himself. Instead, he lets his work do the talking.

More confirmed that Amin was a good cricketer in his younger days and represented his school and college. He is said to have a passion for football, too, and keeps himself abreast of what goes on in the game across the globe. According to an unimpeachable source, he is a qualified pilot and once headed the Gujarat Flying Club, Civil Aerodrome, Baroda.

"I know Chirayu Amin more as a businessman and cricket administrator than anything else. And his record in both these vastly different fields speaks for itself. I am sure his experience as a cricket administrator will stand him in good stead in his new role as the interim IPL president," former Baroda and India stumper Nayan Mongia said.
